Not control line, but still fun. A little film clip of James Bond in the little jet BD-5. That had to be fun to fly. Amazing what the film industry can do. #^

Where is it Doc? ???
Cheers

We're waiting ............... it should be a good one.............TDurrill ??? #^ y1 H^^

I found it. It is on Plane-A-Day. http://www.planeaday.com/

That BD-5J (or one similar) is on display at the Eugene, OR Airplane Museum. Check it out when you attend the NW Regionals.

Watching the clip, I thought I saw something strange (really, in a James Bond film?).
There's some glimpses of him moving the control stick. But the stick is in the wrong place. Bond has a stick that is between his knees but BD-5s have a side stick.

So? S?P

Right Clint, and a good one too!!!!!!! #^ y1

James Bond can have a whole fleet of space shuttles up simultaneously. Why not a center stick on a BD-5 LL~

As I recall, the opening credits were the best part of that one.

And a fixed pitot tube. And wings and tail that didn't fold. And truly anemic acceleration, way too little to get off the ground in that short of a space. And if you're going to fly knife-edge through a hanger, you're going to need to be a little more tail-down (and need more thrust). Etc.
It's a movie. It's a Bond movie. Realism just doesn't enter the picture!

Awesome.
Chris...

I just watched the clip again. And thought about the BD-5 with the prop. And thought about the weight of a Cox 049. And thought... The nose weight would be worth it.
-
Well ok, as long as we're nit picking.
I like how the jet slows to about 35mph as it goes through the hanger. LL~
-
Yup. Shoulda been through there in an eyeblink. And it would have still been impressive.

Many years ago on a trip to LA, I visited the Douglas Museum in Santa Monica and got to look and touch the BD5J that was used in the film. I believe the museum is now called Museum of Flying.
Here is some more background info:

Yes the movies do take liberties. Looks it would be a fun plane to play around with. But, with my age the old J-3 Cub is probably too fast. LL~ LL~

Budd Davisson says the control are pretty sensitive. Takes a delicate touch.

Looks like a BD-5J might, in the not too distant future, be seen at airshows:

Not sure if there's others still flying. I recall seeing a website saying they were using them to mimic cruise missiles in military excercises.
