We aren't really sure?  But Robert and I both "ALWAYS" follow the instructions we are given

It is a kind of unwritten rule that I learned in St Louis that the pilot of the plane must help with the starting by standing next to it or holding it.  I now make the grand kids stand or hold the plane while I start it for them.   DOC Holliday

Yes its true, I borrowed a Phorce and did nothing but hold the handle. The plane flew its self and I got credit. I also pulled off a third In Expert. Matt Newman 580, Kenny Stevens 573 and them me with 564 with a airplane I have not flown in 2 years. My SV 100. Winds were light both days and the temp was 15 degrees cooler than last year. Great fun. See you all next year,maybe I'll have my own BARF.

First off, congrats to Sparky on his win.  When I'm in St. Louis, Sparky can use my electric profile too.

Second, last time I checked the rule book, the pilot didn't have to be near or start their engine.  These kinds of things seem to keep coming up but in reality are not required.  Maybe some time ago, but not now, at least the last time I checked.  Which was a few years go.
