Mufflers for McCoy .35 Red Head

Is there anyone making mufflers for the old Red Head .35 McCoy's? I also still need a couple of needle Valves for the same engine.

You may contact Scott Riese, he makes some pretty nice tongue mufflers for about anything you can imagine, AND he is a McCoy fan,, hes got hundreds of them,,, lol

Scott Dinger makes a tube style muffler... the ones that Tom Lay recommends for his .40 Red Heads.

They are not exactly cheap but probably one of the best money can buy, engineered to not overheat a McCoy.

As far as NVA goes... that is about as easy as finding hen's teeth.  You might consider an after market Super Tigre style, or if your a bit eBay savy your can find a low buck, burned out (and sometimes not burned out) engine for parts, including the NVA! Been there, done that... Last week I was the winning bidder on four engines that came to $17.80 total including shipping. Two Cox 049 Baby Bee's, one .020 production engine, and one near mint (although a bit dirty and gummed up) McCoy .35 Lightning Bolt.  I crock potted the McCoy and it cleaned right up, a fine engine indeed! I will sell the Cox engines to get my money back and should just about end up with a free McCoy .35 LB (I love it when a plan comes togther)

I have used the Tatone Peacepipe Muffler with good results on the RH 35 on a Barnstormer.. I open the end up as far as I can and run it.. sometimes I have ground the interior out on tube type mufflers from other engines..

One muffler I have found to work well on the old Fox 35.. is the 1970s-early 80s OS 20-25 Muffler.. I grind/sand the mating surface flat and then Permatex a thick piece of gasket material to the muffler, this prevents it from slipping or moving it around.  .. trim it up with an x-acto #11.. and presto.. you will have a very light strap on muffler.. that works well..

The McCoy engines will run a little hotter with a muffler... and seems to loose a little power.. so model weight of 35oz is a good thing.. anything above 35 oz... you have to be careful not to lean the engine out in an attempt to extract more power... they love cool days... and Castor oil.. Kinda like my old Harley.. cool days and 50w dino oil...

The lightening bolt engines have the exhaust support for drilling to fit a tongue muffler .. the early versions have a support but it sits back a 1/4" or so.. and has a bull-nosed surface ..

My Tom Lay McCoy 40 has the center web drilled and tapped and a plate adapter for a Scott Dinger muffler. His mufflers are so thin, that his tube aluminum mufflers weigh less than an ounce.

Hi Tom, in respect to McCoy needle valve assemblies - try Mecoa http://www.mecoa.com/.
They stock McCoy series 21 assemblies, which are very near the same unit.

I'm hurting for needle valves myself.....mufflers arent so bad to make. I use a dremel tool and cutting wheel to shape to port[hole] in aluminum tubing........then drill two holes all the way through to accept the "U" strap. Pretty easy even for a shade tree like me.
