Anyone here feel left out?

Maybe someone in the CL community wasn't nice to someone at the Academy?

Or do they feel CL is a lost cause that's declining instead of expanding?

I for one feel the CL community should have an equal part.

Whoever is in tight with the Academy could look into it.

Well I have had my membership since 1956 and have never let it lapse.   Maybe one of these years people will wake up to the use of control line as entertainment for people.  With electric power we could probably get to flying on local ball diamonds again. LL~ LL~

Been a member of the AMA since 1953. Even received a "Courtesy" free renewal while I was in the army.
Need AMA membership to fly at club field. I wonder if years ago when I was threatened by the local police if I showed them my AMA card they would not have threatened to take away my "Toys" while flying at the local school yard in an almost desolated area. Merely a Dyna jet one time and a Fox 59 another time. Still have both 60 years later and just look at them now and then.

The AMA Leadership is obviously just a bunch of money grubbing "Twerps".  I only keep my membership because I need it to fly in local competition.  I have absolutely no affiliation with them for any other reason, and don't give a hoot what they do with their stupid ideas and and stupid organization.  It does distress me to give my dues to them every year, but it's only for competition.

I admit I feel a little like the guy in the insurance ad that throws his money in the Harbor and then says he regrets it!!

At my age I will likely never get to use the flying site or anything else that exists that is connected to it!

Maybe I'm really the one that's stupid but I remember when the AMA actually had a purpose besides collecting my money, and meant something to me!

I'm an AMA contest director, and feel that I support the AMA.
That being said, I'm going to share a brief anecdote. Take from it what you will.

26 Oct - 28 Oct 2018 was the AMA district fun fly. The local RC clubs asked the Las Vegas circle burners to be present. Right about the time of the ringmaster fly-a-thon (the first weekend of oct) the RC clubs notified us that there was an issue with cleaning up the dirt area that was supposed to be for CL use. We said well we will just fly beaters of the dirt area as is. Our club prez spoke with the district rep, and they advised against having control line flying there. Another week went by and the club prez spoke with the AMA rep again, and asked perhaps we can just do 2 demo flights. The AMA rep said it would be unreasonable to ask RC pilots who've traveled to wait to use the runway. He again advised that CL not be flown at all out there. During our meetings, the club decided, sounds like we're not welcome.

A gentleman from another state traveled out to the AMA district 10 fun fly. He brought out only a CL plane. He was told very specifically CL was not allowed to be flown at this fun fly. Our club didn't know this fellow, otherwise we would have warned him before he made such a long trip.

I guess this is another reason I will not be a member of the Shawnee Mission Radio Control Club.   Some of the officers tried to get Control Line fly banned from the park.   And one year an individual wanted me to put up a demo flight and was immediately reprimanded and told no CL flying period. mw~

Bob,
You forgot to mention that we have our own CL area (2 circles mowed weekly with ability to go to 4 if needed) and dont have to share it with other types of model flying.

For what ever its worth,I too am a CD and have been a member of AMA for may years starting in 1960 I believe. Most recently while flying on a reclaimed Fly Ash dump, two guys in a pickup were driving by and saw us up there! They turned around and we all got acquainted! I've lived here for over 9 years and have had to travel from 72, to 52, to 23 miles one way to fly! One of the two original guys actually lives less that 1.3 miles from my house! We've become great friends. He was buying a Duck Stamp to go duck hunting and the sales guy asked if he knew a certain lady? The lady is in charge of all caretakers of municipal Parks in this County! To make a long story short we now have permission to fly in the Park where I only rarely and only in the off seasons used to fly! We're flying there weekly on Sunday afternoons WITH Permission from the powers that BE!!! In part this was made possible by the AMA Membership with its attendant Insurance! This alone is  and has been worth the price of membership. I still feel like an orphaned child as to the bulk of AMA! However it truly does have appositive side a side from the inadequate magazine!

Oh and the guy in the Pick Up truck has a 13 year old son who we just got to solo the day before Thanksgiving! Yes sir there's another UC guy coming along!
