Title: Is this real?

If this is not an ad for spectra than we are screwed.

I guess that makes Brodak's prices look reasonable...That price is carzy.

Lines prices are getting out of hand. Spectra - FINS 40G are stronger, thinner, lighter, available at local fishing outlets or online and cost lots less. Available in several LB tests that fit our needs.

I've been using the 45LB test for 35 size ships and they are great, no noticeable, stretch and very durable.

With control lines, as with a lot of other things, modelers buy whatever falls off the truck from other industries.  As near as I can tell, that "other industry" for us is fishing line, although there may be some industrial use for itty bitty stainless cable.  As such, if that industry goes to some other technology, or moves offshore, then we're left hanging (this is basically what happened with nitromethane -- it's used in a lot of industrial processes that aren't done here anymore).

So I checked a couple of fishing sites -- prices on 7-strand stainless steel leader wire doesn't seem to have gone up too much.  At least -- not enough to justify Sullivan's price increase.  They've probably identified that as a slow item, and are raising prices to discourage sales -- or something.

Talk to Melvin Shute, MBS model supply.  You can get yourself 1000' of the line size of your choice plus crimp sleeves (if you want 'em), eyelets, and probably a crimp tool, for not much more than that one set of lines from Sulivan.

I find it much more convenient to just make up a set of lines off of a big real than to use a line set.

Sig, BTW, sells their version of that same line set (https://sigmfg.com/collections/control-line-accessories/products/sig-braided-control-line?variant=52336853001) for $25.

I have a 65LB spool of each sitting on my desk waiting for a Boy Scout to come by and tie them.  When my Ukraine lines ware out it will be "Spectra".

I found a set of SS lines I made in 2005 and used for several years. If I cut off the ends and make new ends would they be just as safe as new lines?

Probably so, unless you can see/feel damage, such as frayed strands.  If in doubt, a pull test can put your mind at ease.

In the ancient times I observed (and then measured, as well) that the SIG lines are significantly weaker than Sullivan products.
It was so surprising, but since that ( ca. 40 years) I always avoid SIG lines.
Does somebody know what is the situation now?
(I broke some lines in laboratory, and Sullivan 7 strand .015 was right 20N strong, and the stongest was some Russian, or Ukrainian, maybe Soviet 7-strand .015" with 24N strength. Sorrowfully, after some years the bronze (or brass) coating weared, and some rust appeared. :(

Kinks are the worst.  While my circa 1975 Green Box Nobler / Fox 35 flew its best on kinked .012 lines, the kinks brought it to its demise.

As others say, get a 1000' spool from MBS in whatever sizes you favor - .018, .015, .012 in my case.

Do you know some info on MBSmodellsupply lines? How many strands have they? 4? 5? 7? or 19?
Thanks in advance: Istvan

Pretty sure it is 7 strand, same as Sig and Sullivan.

Yes it is.  It looks like exactly the same stuff.
