How do I title this?
« on: May 06, 2018, 04:25:16 PM »
Went to the field yesterday after the wife got home and said I could use her car.  The so called grand daughter who is/was the first grand child has taken control of my car.  Got to the field and a pick up was blocking the drive.  Seems a young man was flying his store bought electric toy RC planes.   I informed him that this was not a designated RC field in which he said they won't let him fly at the other field.   Asked him if he had an AMA license in which the answer was no and also a no to having an FAA registration.   He stated that the people who sold him these planes never mentioned AMA or FAA let alone needing a permit to fly at the regular RC fields.   Any way I explained to him that this was a control line model plane field.   But he wanted to fly.  So I told him if he stayed north of the drive we use he could fly and do not hit me or any thing as he could lose all he had.  He put up one more flight and left.
Dave got there as I was launching my flight.  After I landed I removed the stooge and got ready to help him.  During a break two of Shawnee Police Department finest stopped by.   They had never seen a control line model and had wondered why the railroad ties were laid out in circle.   Dave put up a flight we talked for a few minutes.  They too are looking for the people that keep tearing up public property.   Any way those two now know what Dave and I do down there.  When I was done and leaving the field I have an answer for the sign that mentions the park rules and time of use.   Make sign out of 1/4 inch steel boiler plate welded to 6 inch diameter steel pipe set in reinforce concrete.   Then see if they can drive over it or take it.   The stop sign that use to be on the intersection to the gravel/sand place and the auction house has disappeared.   Well that is off my chest.   Next week is Combat in Topeka,  week after is fun fly at Lake Jacomo and then the Topeka stunt contest.  May is busy. Hello John
How about "Fun at the circle where different worlds collide" I used to fly with a police man (an excellent bloke and fine model builder who other NZ modellers would probably remember for his FW 190 stunter) who would take exception to some of the activities of other field users when we flew at very 'public' park and you realized he was worried about a lot of things other then just his flying!
Regards Gerald
