I got a email stating this and lets hear your thoughts?
Is Stunt Hangar a New SIG?
-
Saprky,
Not absolutely sure what the "legal" definition of Special Interest Group is. If a SIG is supposed to represent the interests of a specific group (let's say control line stunt flyers) to another specific group (say the AMA), then that job is already taken.
Given the percieved favor shown by the AMA to the RC flyers (of all types), there may be a need for a Special Interest Group for Control Line scale, combat, speed, etc. Such a SIG may already exist, but since I don't fly any of those types, I don't know.
I would suggest a conversation with your AMA District VP about the question.
Cheers,
Jim

Who said there can only be 1 SIG for each facit? Chevy vrs Ford

Don't know about the SIG thing but sure wished you would take the weather links out of the forum software. This forum is so slow to load when you click on a thread I don't even bother unless it is something I really want to read.
Citywx.com is dead in the water and the links are slowing down progress..

Per the AMA web site, the SIGs for control line are:
North American Speed Society
Navy Carrier Society
National Control Line Racing Association
National Association of Scale Aeromodlers
Precision Aerobatics Model Pilots Association
I didn't see a SIG listed for CL combat, but there may be one.

MACA used to be the combat SIG, but I heard they had some internal squabbles.
As far as Stunt Hanger being a SIG: Please define what we want to represent. As far as On Line Forums go, all control line forums are very small potatoes compared to the RC forums. As far as control line stunt goes, PAMPA is the SIG and I don't want to get into that argument again.
I suggest we leave well enough alone and enjoy our little niche. Control line model aviation is a wonderful hobby, but it will never be as big a part of the overall scene as in the past.
My .02,
Ron
PS - I agree with Bob Reeves. Whatever is causing the super slowness, get rid of it. Stunt Hanger is virtually unusable right now. I used to scan things every day. Now I don't bother. The threads take forever to load.

On forum speed: I don't have any problem, but then, I'm on a T-1 connection.

If we can't get Sparky to fix it.. everyone go into your profile and delete your zip code.. Without the zip the weather thing won't try to load..
-
No problems here with the speed of looking at posts or plictures since my daughters boy friend corrected the so called dial up thingy in the main pc. Before that I could only post from the lap top. Go figure, DOC Holliday

I don't know what to say. I have not experienced any problems with loading on a normal basis. I am on cable, maybe that is a difference? I also had to replace my ethernet card and went with a 10/100 which was a higher rated one than before.

HI Bob
I have had zero problems loading up or down here, I am not sure what teh problem on some peoples end a re but I have asked several people and they have had no problems either. If the weather link is slowing things down we may need to take a look at it but, it is strange that it would only slow a few people and not others???

I've had no problems on this end, no apparent slowing.

Don't believe it has anything to do with connection speed as I am on a wireless service that is faster than cable or DSL and this is the only site giving me trouble. Probably a timeout setting when the browser isn't able to access a URL.
You guys have fun, someone send me a note when it's fixed... Bye

The AMA recognizes organizations that represent some form of aeromodeling. The AMA lists as many as 24 Special Interest Groups. The AMA has forms that can be submitted to the AMA if a group wishes to receive SIG status with the AMA. I am not sure if the AMA has a definition for what a SIG really is. Furthermore, I am not sure what the purpose of a CL Forum SIG would be. And I think there would be some problems with filling out the SIG application in the name of a CL Forum.
As has been mentioned, there are SIG's for Aerobatics, Carrier, Speed and Racing. There is a SIG for Scale, the National Association of Scale Modelers which encompasses RC, FF and CL.
To clarify some statements above, the Miniature Aricraft Combat Association, MACA, for CL Combat, is alive and well.
Check out: http://www.maca.hobby-site.com:3535/
The National Free Flight Society is the SIG recognized by the AMA for all of the FF events, including indoor. In fact, I think the NFFS is probably the first so-called SIG recognized by the AMA years before there were any CL SIG's. I think the nature of the FF events allows those events to be represented by a single SIG and it seems to work well as far as the AMA and the Free Flighters are concerned.
I cannot speak for the other SIG's, CL or otherwise, but the purpose of the SIG status of PAMPA is to assist the AMA in the conduct of the Nats and the FAI CL Aerobatics Team Trials. However, the roll of PAMPA in these events might seem a bit unclear to the casual observer. The CLPA events at the Nats are run by the Nats CLPA Event Director under the direction of the Nats organizers and the Director of the Nats CL events. Announcement about the Nats stunt events are made in the PAMPA newsletter as are calls for volunteers. For the most part, the volunteers at the Nats, including judges, tabulators, pull testers, pit bosses, and on and on are for the most part, but not always PAMPA members. I think the AMA depends on the other CL Sig's for the same functions at the Nats. For the FAI Aerobatics Team Trials, these are planned and determined by the AMA FAI Control Line Aerobatics Team Selection Committee which has nothing to do with PAMPA. However, the Team Selection Finals Event Director depends heavily on volunteers, mostly from PAMPA, to make the Team Trials work.

I use an ordinary cable internet connection, not particularly superfast at all. But FireFox is so much better than any MS Internet Exploder version that it's not funny. I have never used IE for anything other than getting the Security Patches for the leaky OSes MS sells. There has been no slowdown here that I've seen. None at all. Give either Sea Monkey or FireFox a try and see if the slowdown disappears.

Mine is very slow also, can't read alot of the post. I got dail up, shouldn't be that slow.
-
Back to the SIG thing...
IMHO, control line SIG=yes, AMA SIG=no. As stated several times, for AMA purposes, just as in "Highlander"...there can be only one! ;D
But we are, of course, a group with a special interest ... thus a SIG.

I'm on ten Meg per second cable. Sometimes the site is fine other times pages are either slow or just wont load. Can be very frustrating. At least I'm not alone

It will fix the problem.. try going to www.citywx.com and you will receive a 404 error because the site is gone. It is not a problem on my end other than I am still running an older version of IE on a couple computers. I have 4 computers all with both FireFox and IE that I use fairly regularly. The two that are still running Windows 98 really show the problem, the other two aren't too bad but still slow compaired to what it was before citywx went away.
When you get the citywx links off the site the problem will go away...
