I just have to share this because it's one of the most amusing signs ever - this is in front of an area church here in Ohio. It says, "The devil called, he wants his weather back!"

Hey Will,
I know we are not supposed to give in to temptation but maybe just this once??? ??? ???
-
Today will be 30 straight to top 100 degrees in Big D. Headed to 108 today.
What fun!!
Later, Steve

How about this one?
-
Brother Will,
We have already been hitting the 105 and above heat index ratings. Some days of intense thunder storms have dropped the temps, but overall it is really hot. ;D Can't even go flying it is just too bad out there! (and the hospital stays aren't conducive to flying either) LL~

Sky is clear here, and it's supposed to get up to 72 today at the field.
-
Phil,
Thanks, we in the Dallas area needed a laugh. That picture says it all!
As Doug said, 105. A few minutes ago my car thermometer said 108, and today's forcast is at least in that range. The forcast for the 7 days is for 105 and up and not a drop of rain in sight.
Bill,
I don't believe in heat index exaggerations... We are talking real temperatures. When it is hot it is just plain hot!
-
In Wichita Falls, TX (in north west Texas, near the Oklahoma-Texas border) the high temperature for the day has exceeded 100 degrees f for 70 plus days without interruption. The local weather men have quit keeping count since we exceeded the all time record (57 days in a row) a couple weeks ago. It is 80+ degrees at 6:00 a.m. and sometimes near 100 degrees at midnight. Fortunately(?), we rarely have much humidity to go with the heat. Currently 107.5 (forecast 109) with 23% humidity (That produces a heat index of 111.).We have had a little over 2" of precipitation since January 1. Even the fire ants have given up. Thinking about moving to Death Valley for a little relief!
I have been flying before 8:00 (85-90) in the morning or after 7:00 (100-105) in the evening and have worn the poor dried grass on my circle to bare earth in the center and where I launch. Deep cracks have appeared everywhere. Takeoffs and landings must be done very carefully.

Before you all decide to move to California's Death Valley.....
I drove to the Nats again this year. As I crossed the coastal valleys the temps were in the '90's. Traffic was heavy as I crossed the Los Angeles basin but it completely stopped when I got on the I-15 as I approached the Cajon Pass. Took about 45 minutes to move a couple of miles. I couldn't believe the cause: CalTrans had the interstate closed down to one lane northbound while--believe it or not--they moved their snowplow trucks around in the other lanes! I crossed over the first mountain range, and saw the last of the snowfields high above on top of Mt. San Antonio (Mt. Baldy to the locals) on the north face and melting fast after a record snowfall winter. (ie. it wasn't a continuation of the drought!) In the high desert, the temps started at 112F and moved up from there. Thru famously hot places like Barstow, Dagget(!), and Needles. People from Death Valley go to Dagget to cool off! I kept a close watch on the truck's tranny temp gage, in addition to the engine temp gauge, which I figured would hold at just below 212 until everything suddenly boils over with no warning....
It started cooling off in Arizona once well east of Lake Havasu, down into the single hundies (less than 110), and continued to cool thru New Mexico and the Texas panhandle which reached about 102 to 105 in the middle of the afternoon. Same for Oklahoma. Then it dropped a little more crossing into Missouri, but remained right at the Century mark all the way to Muncie.
Since the back of the truck does not benefit from air conditioning, ya gotta be careful what/how you pack. I always forget that the lids to the epoxy will pop off from the altitude changes and heat, and at least one of the bottles/tubes will overflow. I have learned to pack that stuff separately in Ziplock bags so it is at least easier to clean up. And I stopped packing the diesel fuel in the back because it loses ether right thru the metal can in those temps. It goes in the cab from now on.
Funny, standing on the asphalt at Muncie all week didn't seem too bad. But CL racing means running---so run we did!
Still and all, if you wanted to take a few days in Death Valley for your health, I bet there is plenty of room. Just be sure to bring a tent because they ain't got no shade trees!

We head north in the summer to escape the heat. Like to Muncie. :) It was really quite pleasant there this year: highs no more than the high 80's the whole week of the CL NATs.
We're in Alamosa, Colorado, right now. Was in the 50's last night and it was really warm out at the Great Sand Dune National Park today: about 78. Will be in Creede, CO next later this week which is about 1000' higher and 10 degrees cooler than Alamosa.
Was 105 when we went through Wichita Falls last week and 109 in the road between there and Amarillo.

My Chevy HHR reading was 111 degrees a few minutes ago in Granbury, Texas just south west of Ft. Worth. The highs are expected to go even higher this week. My trailer is loaded with planes and equipment but at 65 w/health concerns I am not flying this week. I hope to make it to Albuquerque later this month and get in some flying up there.

Biscuits and Gravy plus Phil from PhilDale were out at hobby park Sunday afternoon. Nobody else. The blacktop circle was only 150 degrees or so.

I lived in New Orleans for four years. One summer I was visiting back home in the Texas Hill Country. After lunch I went out on the porch and lay down on a cot. There was a nice cool breeze. and I thought, "How pleasant!" I looked at the thermometer in the shade on the wall; 108 F. Yes, it was a dry heat. H^^

A balmy 95 in Boulder CO today, and that's at over 5000'.
-
Wichita Kansas ..... it's over 110 Degrees
I'm in the cool basement working on the models

Trying to finish a Piper Cub in my basement but humidity is very high. Dehumidifier makes it warmer. Next year an air condioner will be installed. HB~>

July 2011 was the hottest month ever for Austin, TX, since 1852. Aug 1 was 107, record high for that day

How hot is it?
Hot enough to bend a railroad track like a pretzel! %^@
Believe it or not, summer heat really can cause warping -- or so-called sun kinks -- on railroad tracks.
"Tight Lines" & hoping for cooler weather. H^^

Coming back from the bank yesterday morn, the Ford showed 105F. Last Saturday it was comfortable at the fun fly until the Sun came out. Melvin said it was time to call it quits for the day. I asked if they were still flying in Topeka on Sunday afternoons. He said it was too hot. Fred mentioned Wichita KS. I remember one year down there on the grass the big cracks in the dirt. There is a four way prop/glow plug wrench down in one of those cracks. H^^
-
Tulsa, OK broke another daily record yesterday - 110, same expected today or hotter.
My house is a cool 78, best I can manage.
-
And the weather man cautioned last evening that August is still going to be the hottest month of the year! Something to look forward to.
-
Will, I show 96 in Muncie today.
Rick
-
I guess I should say Gaston, 10 miles north of Muncie. The computer shows Muncie at 93.
Rick

Rick,
I personally assign you to cool the AMA site down on August 26th so we can practice. Also, keep it that way for at least two more days, okay?! y1 (76 would be perfect.) (Light winds, too, if you can find the order for that as well.)
seeya soon,

The mosquitoes are packing canteens in Tulsa. My thermometer shows 112 at 3:00pm. Going to plane room where it is 75.

This just in. My wife said one of the guys at her work place, put some chocolate chip cookie dough on a pan and put it on the dash of his truck. 3 hours later, the cookies were done. It reached at least 180 in the cab of the truck. 180 is as high as his inside temp gauge would show.

I think here in Abilene and Salina, we have been the hot spot in KS. We've even been hotter than Wichita. It has been over a 100 almost everyday for a long time. We had 108 today, with 110 yesterday, and 112 a few days ago. I have managed to get out early one morning and fly my R/C Playboy, and the other evening to fly my R/C bipe. It is just to hot to fly contro line. I can stand in the shade of the shelter to fly R/C. Sure hope it cools off one of the days. I need my control line fix. LOL

108* in my hay field today.
Wow, John, I hope you weren't bailing!!!

Was that before or after the field caught fire?
It is expected to hit 90 today here in Indianapolis for the 18th consecutive day. The record is 19 days set in the 1930's.

You want cool, c'mon up to the NW next summer, Bill. Don't forget your Polar Fleece. Late July and all of August is usually pretty decent. Sometimes September and even into October is nice, if you brought your woolies. LL~ Steve

We set a record high yesterday in Stuart fl. it was 96. However do not think it is comfortable here, it is not. If we go out and fly in the morning when it is in the eighties we are soaked when we land. So a little flying and then we retire to the shade and talk about the Status Que.

Back in the 60's, I put a thermometer in my 61 Buick Special, a small car. The thermometer only went to 140*. When I went to the car, it was pegged as high as it would go.

Don't know what all you folks are so excited about. Here in AZ we just consider 115 normal "Balmy" summer weather. The Balmy is what you get to be here in the summer time.

75 year old Record in Indianapolis tied today!
106 years ago in 1905 - 18 consecutive days at or above 90 degrees.
75 years ago in 1936 - 19 consecutive days at or above 90 degrees.
Now in 2011 - 19 consecutive days at or above 90 degrees.
Will we have a NEW TRACK RECORD?
Tomorrows forecast, 87 degrees

Quote from John Stiles, "I was raking....115 yesterday."
Wow, John, can the stuff even begin to dry with all the humidity? Even with a crusher, I can't imagine it happening very quickly. Just be careful of yourself out there.

It's been a very pleasant upper 70s, low 80s up here in northern Vermont y1

Was 49 degrees when I got up this morning. Had to turn the heat on in the RV. #^
Sure wish I could carry some of this back to Texas when we have to leave in another couple of weeks.

That is why we come out in March to play with the planes. Temps usually in 80 degree range. But, I remember one or two years I was glad I had my overcoat with me. Always pack it and my winter gloves because of the states we have to drive thru to get there. LL~ LL~

Charlotte only got to 75 Yesterday but one section of town had just over 9" rain in two hours. They closed interstate 85 and 77 for several hours. Only 2" rain at my house. Two women died in the water after they stole items from a store and were chased across a parking lot and ran in to a over flowing creek trying to get away. Needless to say a lot of flooding.
Ed
Here is a link to some news about it.Most of the area had 4.5" some had 6.5" and one area had 9.2"

We had rain last night and standing water this morning here in the home of Roadrunner, Wily Coyote and ACME Engineering. It's a dry, humid, cool heat.

Actually I was thinking about turning the heater on. No, really. I live in Santa Cruz and it's foggy here in July. Almost cold! Sorry to hear it's hotter-N-'L where you live. Wish we could exchange equal amounts of air.........would make a rather pleasant day for both of us. >:D VD~

Sent the following to contacts in Hawaii and England. Henry says in Hawaii its about 80 in AM and gets to the 90's in afternoon. Andrew said it was in the 80's and then rained for 24 hours straight. Finally here in KANSAS Shawnee area it is staying in the 90's. H^^
IT'S SO HOT AND DRY.........
....the birds have to use potholders to pull the worms out of the ground.
.....the trees are whistling for the dogs.
.....the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
.....hot water comes from both taps.
.....you can make sun tea instantly.
.....you learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
.....the temperature drops below 95 F (35 C) and you feel a little chilly.
.....you discover that in July it only takes two fingers to steer your car.
.....you discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
.....you actually burn your hand opening the car door.
.....you break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 A.M.
.....your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get
knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death"?
.....you realize that asphalt has a liquid stage.
.....the potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter.
.....the cows are giving evaporated milk.
.....farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.
Now today I plan on sanding the ISW and spraying the color.

Indianapolis just keeps on recording NEW TRACK RECORDS!
We started on July 17 with a high temperature at or above 90 degrees. Yesterday August 7, 2011 we again recorded a high temperature at or above 90 degrees. That makes the new Record 22 consecutive days at or above 90 degrees!
They are forcasting a high today of only 83 degrees, I may have to put on a jacket.
