Is flying season over?

Well, at our flying field here in Tucson this Saturday morning, Dec 11, it was in the high 70's, very light breeze away from the sun.  We try to keep this weather a secret this time of year to keep all of those Califonians from moving here.

  Well today in S. Ca. it was high of 79 but very windy , tomorrow a high of 81 is forecast with light winds . So should be a good turn out at the CL circles in the Sepulveda basin tomorrow .

Dead calm and +4 Celsius this afternoon .A couple of us managed about 10 flights.SW Ontario is going to get dumped on starting about midnight.Might of been the last flying of the year.

We still have green grass here .London On. 100 kilometers east of here has over a metre of snow.

Just got in from 3 hours' work to dig ourselves out.  The 5' bank at the end of the drive that the snowplows threw up was the real problem.

     In the Fort Worth/Dallas area of Texas flying season is really never over. We just take some breaks from time to time. Last year we got more snow than we've had in the previous 45+ years. Very unusual for north Texas. Today it is around 40 degrees with winds between 15 to 20 mph or so. No flying today. But perhaps tomorrow. We get a cold front and then it passes and it warms up again. Occasionally we will hit a spell to where it will bring a big Canadan freeze in for a couple of weeks. But that is very rare. I have a brand new scratch built full fuselage Oriental in the back of my truck that l am wanting to get some flights in.

     I took out another Oriental last week to test fly after a F-2 forward repair was completed. It flew with  the outboard wing so high I could read both wing panels. I tried a trim tab, extra tip weight, and it still flew that way. I am going to check the flaps to make sure they are both true to level. It did not fly this way before it's last accident. I had a handle break in flight and the plane did several loops before skimming the ground with the nose. I have got to do a closer inspection of the airframe. I was using some .018 lines but I seriously doubt they were the culprit.

     Anyway sunny weather and enough bad days for building is why I like north Texas.

Well, the water is over the driveway (filling a 36" culvert and putting a foot over the road- Yikes!). Water over the road out there too. Nice lake behind the drive. Maybe I'll get my fishing pole out. Pounding rain right now. Hope we keep power.

And the forecast is, yes, more rain. should be a fun drive into work tomorrow. At least when the rain stops, it drains off and is gone. Unlike snow.

Well, my mistake...just saw on the news, the Metrodome roof collapsed today under the snow load.  Not the first time.

On the bright side, it gives us a Mon. nite football game on broadcast TV...

Hi Guys, It is indeed a sad thing to hear that so many of you are fraught with so much
adverse meteorolical phenomena as to preclude any enjoyment in our chosen
hobby/sport endeavors.  As I live in Tucson which is located in the Desert Southwest
it requires that we fly at least 3 times weekly and usually 4-5 times a week.  I was just
out today but must admit it was a little chilly at 77 degrees but soon warmed to a comfortable 82 degrees.  We did have to fight a 2-4mph wind out of the sun but was
able to overcome these weather anomolies.  Hope ya'all have a really nice Christmas and a happy New Year!!!

Now Ray in Minnesota,  you could have kept the temps.  Supposed to be -2F in AM.  The little skiff of snow we got isn't hardly worth talking about.

I used to go surfing at 5am then fly my planes till around 10am and then drive to
Big Bear and do some snow skiing. It was a lot to do in one day and now that I am in
my twilight years I can only fly my planes 4-6 times a week and by then I am ready for my afternoon nap anyway.  The rest of the time is used to build models and watch football.
Unless there is a contest of course then I have to decide which one will win out (pun intended). Ah, life is good after all (If I wasn't on this bloody grand jury gig!)  RJ
