Irvine 53 Stunt Engine
« on: January 22, 2007, 05:42:49 AM »
Hello Everyone.

Last summer I won an Irvine 53 Stunt in a raffle. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Lin:

If it's massaged by Byron Barker, it's VERY Tigre 60 like.  Great 4/2 stunt run. Lee Chamberlain used to run one in a good sized "60" ship. I think the engine came from Bill Hummel.  Ask him???

Any relationship to the Magnum 53?

Randy,
Don't think the 2 motors are related. The Irvine is really a quality piece of equipment. Possibly the finest mass produced motor to ever come out of the UK. Pity that they moved the manufacture off shore to the far east because of the cost of producing it in England
They are however not too suitable as a stunt motor right out of the box. I bought 2 of the Irvine 36 stunts. I've run one and used it and it's a powerful, easy starting motor with nothing even approching a decent run for our use. However as has been reported here with a little massaging it becomes a truly nice runner.
I ubderstand that the magnum when set up to P Gandersons specs is almost perfect out of the box. I have 2 of those and will get around to them eventually.
