Interesting use of L-Pad in Muncie
« on: October 12, 2007, 12:17:22 PM »
On page 13 of the Sep/Oct issue of Sport Flyer magazine an overhead
shot shows circles 3 & 4 of the L-Pad in Muncie being used as a parking
lot during the X-treme Flying Championships. This just does not sit well
with me. We all know that RC drives the AMA. That's where most of the
money comes from. Also, there was a huge turnout for the XFCs, over
700 pilots. But, the flying site is huge and I just don't see the necessity
to use part of the National Flying Site as a parking lot. I doubt if the
underlying structure of the L-Pad is designed for this kind of use and
it could lead to damage, and hence, more cost in resurfacing.

Any thoughts on this? Has anybody heard of this happening before?
Maybe this is common practice and I'm just unaware of it.

Later, Steve

Steve...you're 100% spot on!
When we first went to the site, there were lots of holes from a bunch of Harley's kckstands....the surface was (is) the material used for hard court tennis deal.
I believe that the surfacen was further damaged by hot air balloons the next year.
The surface has been repaved once because of thoughless use...

Seems there be enough parking area that people wouldn't have to use the L-Pad.  But,  money talks.  DOC Holliday
