Trim question
« on: March 19, 2010, 02:55:19 PM »
Grandpa has been, not so much complaining, but mentioning on almost every flight about a lack of tension up high with the rebuilt Big Job.  We've added tip weight and have about 1 1/2oz in there right now, and the plane still didn't much more line tension up high.  I flew it, and I didn't like how the plane went over the top because of the lack of tension.  He moved the leadouts foward and says the plane had more line tension, so he may move them foward a little bit more.

The plane isn not overweight by any means, weighing 51 ounces, lighter than the first one he had.  Also the plane is powered by a Double Star 50, swinging an 11-5 Zinger, which also seemed to help the line tension issue up high.  I've also made the recommendation of adding a little more pitch to give it that extra pull over the top.

Is what we're doing right, and anybody got any other ideas to try? Thanks!

Matt,

What is the rudder configuration?  Straight or Offset?  A lot of Offset can cause problems up high.
Try it with less of you have it that way.  Also, how long are the lines.  Shortening them a little could also
help a lot in the line tension department.

The outboard rudder is offset, but it is the same one from the first plane.  Also the lines are from the prievious plane (yes we pull tested them and made sure they were free of kinks).  I don't know how long the lines are, I think they are somewhere around 62 to center of the plane?
