Instrument Panel Gages
« on: February 12, 2018, 07:12:20 PM »
I've been trying to locate sources for instrument gage decals.  Brodak has a 1/8 scale sheet I ordered today, but I'm not sure what diameter I'll end up with. I have just completed a 54" plans built Frank Baker ME 109 (MAN 1957) I built when I was 14 and ready to finish.

I use J-Tec 1/8 scale instruments and they are 1/4 inch in diameter

Steve,

It's nice to place printed paper gauges sandwiched between material for that scale look, adds a bunch of character to the model and these items are fun to make.

You can also just glue printed photo paper with no gauge opening laminations and get a nice look.

My Mig-3 has a scale cockpit with laminations but this jet cockpit has simple photo paper glued in for good results also.

As Charles said, a laminated panel is the way to go. You can make them very scale like and
they are not hard to make.
I did these out of aluminum, thin clear plastic and gage pictures out of an aviation magazine.

I see you pay attention to detail. "Insignia" yellow I bet, correct?

No graphics, decals or masks. It’s all hand masked and painted. The yellow is actually Sig
Cub yellow with a splash of orange. My dad and I built a real PT-19, so I was able to mix
the colors to match the real thing. I got it pretty damn close.
The trophy was for the “Pilots Choice” Concourse de Elegance award at the Golden State
Championships.
The gentleman holding the plane is contest director Jerry Silver, one of the best dope finisher
On the planet. I can’t tell how flattering it was to hear him complement the plane.
I’ll attach a picture of the PT-19 we built.

I've got a couple of hours in it.
The plane was sold to a gentleman in Napa California after my dad died.
