Posting for Wynn Paul:
Wanted - information on George Pitelka
He flew in the 1966 USA Nationals, finishing 8th in the Senior Division.
Would like to know where he was from, and maybe even his airplane that year.
He possibly is from the eastern part of the U.S.
Contact Wynn Paul with information - wynnpaul@twc.com
Thanks
Wynn Paul

After a long and arduous search, I was able to locate Pitelka's brother-in-law. He told me that Pitelka passed away in 2009 in Slidell, LA.
However, an internet search for a death notice or any other mention came up empty. Also, Pitelka's father is buried in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell, yet George isn't. I wonder why not.
George was an Air Force veteran, but isn't in any of the national cemeteries.
The brother-in-law said that George was active in local model flying, so maybe Allan Perret (AMA 302406) might know Pitelka.
I don't feel quite right about this result, so I may pursue this search a little longer. If I can just locate his sister, Cynthia, ...

That inquiry was 5 years old. Wynn was probably still working on his Stunt History book, which I believe is at the proofreaders now.

Just to add: Pitelka was from Palatine IL. Had sisters Cynthia and Yvonne (deceased).

I just spoke to George Pitelka's sister, Cynthia. She informed me that George is alive and well, living in Phoenix AZ.
If afml will email me at sealbeam01@gmail.com I will give him George's address, phone no.

Wynn Paul has informed me that, upon re-checking the records, he found that Pitelka also competed in the 1965 Nationals, held at Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and finished in fifth place in the Senior division.
