In search of tapered reamer
« on: March 31, 2017, 10:02:35 AM »
I guess I am not as good with Google as I imagined....I can find 20,000 hits for reamers but not the one I robbed from my dad in the 70s

I suspect my inability to find mine, may be my son robbed it from me... like father like son....grin

I had and desire to replace:

Tapered reamer about 6" long, steel 3 or 4 flute, from near 0 to about 3/8th" ( may even have been 1/2" fat at the top) with about a 2"~2.5" long Tee Handle

Funny how often I used this imprecise reamer compared to a 80 piece precision reamer set with plus and minus .001 1/64ths sizes ( sold to a friend who coveted that set a few years back)

But what the hey I still have several 60 year old Cylinder bore Ridge reamers I also robbed from dear old dad who taught me a lot about rebuilding old skool ford and chevy crap engines

This is the $3 version:

Search for tapered HAND reamer and you'll get more hits, Fred. I tried to find a smaller one but haven't had any luck.
Best Regards,
Bill

I get stuff like that from Production Tool.  More money for sure and maybe better quality.

Brother thanks so much... yes was my poorly worded search term....that looks a lot like my fav universal hole opener!!!!!!

May just order enough of them to account for my son's occasional kipping....grin

Check your local Ace Hardware. It will be a "General Tool Co." item, possibly in the glass case, along with their $10 micrometers.  H^^ Steve

I have used the Harbor Freight reamer for a lot of years, mostly to ream props.

Which taper? Morse? There are different tapered reamers for different operations. The ones used for tapered dowel pins used to locate mating parts are pretty handy.
