Fixable?  At least it took to the air -- it looked like it would have provided good line tension once the rotor caught.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Michael to answer your question...I don't know.  The Otto the Giro kit I did did not require you to do that but with this one...I have no idea.

I sure didn't see any bits come off when it hit, but I didn't want to assume.

It looked like it rolled in rather than yawing in -- could it need an outboard winglet with some tip weight?  Or maybe point the wheels to the outside of the circle?

If you thought you'd copied every pertinent bit of Otto The Gyro and launched with confidence -- you have my sympathy.  It seems that my worst new-design disasters happen when I'm most confident at launch.

Post crash, I looked it over.  Thinking he had the LO to far fwd causing it to yaw left soon as it lifted off.

Was that Timmy flying it holding onto the handel (sic)? He didn't display much in the way of foot speed to attempt a save. Was it the Ring Giro's 1st flight? Bad Tim, BAD!   LL~ Steve

Steve the man who was flying it is Ed Shearer.   Ed has been flying lots and lots of years.  He likes the unusual and has built many successful flying machines that are really unique designs.  I am sure he will correct whatever the problem was and get it in the air again soon.

Mike,

Make sure the wheels track out of the circle. Also have it launched pointing out a bit more. I have flown a box stock plans built "Otto" and it had no particular vices. See this link from Stuka Stunt:

GYRO with a Y...They don't fly without the rotor spinning.
Are the leadouts angled back? Is the rudder cocked to the right?
The rotor just generates lift, you still need line tension.

I suspect, based on this and other threads, that Steve has decided that I need an Internet stalker.  While he seems to think that I have a singularly strong ability to crash airplanes, he doesn't realize that it's just a combination of ineptitude and persistence that turns the trick.

The intrepid Young Daniel had many successful flights with Ted's gyro....Ted even had a lot.
They always spun the rotor before release and had a wire contraption that the lines passed through that kept them at about mid fuselage and also were a little behind the rotor hub....

When Danny decided to loop the thing, it got ugly.....the blade(s?) hit the lines and it pretty much hog tied the time....Palko can probably quiz Dan or Ted about it....

We are thinking you need the Inboard Rotor going FORWARD , unless it flys backwards .

As the air outsides going backwards the outer rotor gets no lift , unless its the inner rotor .

Perhaps dual contra rotateing roters are required for aerobatics .  #^
