Title: Ignition engine question...
Post by: Mike_Fitzgerald on December 16, 2023, 02:38:54 PM
Here's a simple one for one of the "old timers"...If there any left besides me...Working on getting a .64 Super Cyclone  back on line.....Can anyone tell me the gap for a 3/8" NGK spark plug...Also, I can't remember if the ignition system takes two or three batteries...

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks,  Mike

I usually have mine at about .020" and I currently use 2 AA batteries. I've seen some setups using 3 though.

I normally use three batteries and  slightly less gap.

In my limited experience, I've used a 600mah single cell lipo. It was the only battery I could fit in my compartment.

On Super Cyclones I run .015 or less on the points as they float easy if any wider. Plugs the same. .015. 2 double A batteries will work. Either Energizer or NIMH or nicads. The energizers should have a booster to start. Nicads and NIMH are low on voltage, but have enough more current that they will work. Best, 3 NIMH or Nicads. Or a single Lipo.

Super Cyclones are great running engines. I have found a 12-7 or 12-8 prop works very well for flying control line. Ignition is the fun side of control line flying. It adds a whole new dimension.
