about 68,000 miles tall
One trillion is a tough number to wrap your brain around. It is 1,000 times more than 1 billion, and 1 million times more than 1 million. If you had 1 trillion dollar bills, and stacked them up, your tower of money would be about 68,000 miles tall, which would get you about a third of the way to the moon.Aug 3, 2019

As of May 1, 2020 federal debt held by the public was $19.05 trillion and intragovernmental holdings were $5.9 trillion, for a total national debt of $24.95 trillion.

I think it will never be paid back

Robert we are leaving this debt on the shoulders of our children and grand children and it will never be paid back.  I am soon to be 73 and with the world in the shape it is in now, I am glad.

We are indeed blessed.  I passed that milestone in March.  In spite of Korea/Vietnam/Iraq,  the '60 protests, etc.  we may have lived through America's greatest era.  I think our Grandchildren may live in it's last.  The good news is that I am 73 and won't be here to see it. #^

If it continues, the entire national GDP will be used just to pay the interest on the national debt.  I wonder if the Federal Government will be allowed to declare bankruptsy?

To get a handle on the size of the numbers:  If you are counting seconds, 1 million seconds is about 12 days (11.6), 1 billion seconds is 32 years, and a trillion seconds is 32,000 years.  Yes, a trillion is a BIG number!

Think about that folks it will take 32 years at a 1000 dollar bill a second to to pay back 1 trillion dollars. Our leaders have not done a Very good job of managing our countries money. 25 trillion dollars is 792 years WOW.

And the Federal Reserve continues to print money out of thin air with nothing to back it up.  No gold standard (thanks to Nixon), no silver, nothing.  If you or I did this it is called counterfeiting and we would have the Secret Service all over us in a heartbeat.

Since the inception of the Federal Reserve, the dollar has done nothing but lost value.  Last I heard the dollar has lost 96% since the Fed was created.  In time, the dollar will be worth as much as Monopoly money.

As far as the debt goes (government debt as well as consumer debt), I hear of a "debt jubilee."  Just wipe out the debt as if it never existed.  Bernie favored this plan.  Elizabeth Warren, too.  Sounds good if you owe money but what about those who are owed money?  How do they stay in business?  Who pays for that?

This is another reson not to go to a cashless society. Why do we need to borrow money at interest when we are a sovrin nation and our Treasury is the one that is suppose to print and create money not a Bank of useless do nothings.
