Ice-O-Lated
« on: February 24, 2010, 08:17:18 AM »
Thought Ice-O-Lated was the 28th of February so I didn't think about it this past weekend with all the snow and ice.  Been perfect for the event as the temps were in the 20's.  The guys down south didn't go either and told me I had wrong dates.  Checked events forum and seen it was listed as the 21st.  So which date is correct?

Hi, Doc

Your are correct.  the 2010 Ice O Lated was accidentally scheduled on the third Sunday instead of the traditional fourth Sunday.  It was held on the 21st.  I regret I was unable to attend due to a bad cold.  The CD for this year's Ice O Lated was Steve Smith.  Despite rain and cold weather, flying wasn't as hard as many previous years but attendance was way down.  I understand that Jason Pierson drove in from Illinois and "dominated" the PAMPA Stunt event.  Steve and Bob Arata judged.  The Perky Speed event had 4 flyers with six entries.  I do not have any scores.  Maybe Steve will post them.

The Ice O Lated is the first contest of the year in this part of the world.  We all look forward to it, even with the obvious weather challenges.  It was unfortunate that things happened (including my heart surgery).  They combined to screw up the scheduling and advertising.  This coming weekend, the usual contest date, will probably be perfect.  Oh, well, we shall do better next year.

regards,

Its a nice time to come fly here on Harsens Island in Michigan. I have a wonderful field just down the street.... no trees for half a mile, nice flat short grass, in fact its on its own little island.... probably fit 10 circles there. But just don't tell me YOU are Ice-O-Lated. This was the view at the ferry dock on Monday.... it was of course not running and I went to work by airboat.

Yes Virginia, we had a contest!

It rained until about 11am and then did not start raining again until about 2pm.  Jason Pearson came over from McLeansburg Illinois and cleaned up!  He was the only stunt flyer - entered Advanced - flew in the rain - and won first place!  <photos attached>.

We had 3 competitors fly 5 different Perky speed planes during the break in the rain.

Scout Troop 288 setup and kept us warm with coffee, hot chocolate, chili, and hot dogs!
Thanks,
