A trivia question relative to the WC's.
Does anyone know how many of the top 15 (finals) were Electric vs IC.
Is Orestes flying Electric or still with IC?
Yes I know it doesn't matter but I'm curious!
Thanks,

Orestes went electric 3-4 years ago. I'm wondering what Richie Kornmeier had under the hood. He won a few years back with a ST .60- against the pipes and maybe a few electric. Hope we'll get some details and photos. Also not sure if Orestes used an accelerometer or not. Don't think he was using one at the Nats last year- didn't ask or notice.

Yes he used an Igor system for both.

Thanks Guys. I hope someone publishes a list of what powerplants most of the top 15 (at least were using. Beginning to sound like David was the only IC engine in the hunt...

There was 6 ic engines in finals; 3 PA's (US, JPN, RUS), 1 DR .68 (UA), 1 Skif 9,5 (RUS) and one 4-stroke (CH).

I believe Yang Jun (5th place) is 4-stroke

Yeah, it will be interesting to see which powerplants placed where. I still believe it's got a lot more to do with who's on the handle than anything though.
Another question, I've never heard, what was the first year of the C/L World Champs? Has it run consecutively throughout?

1960 and yes.
I'm sure this list is correct.
-
BTW, the top 4 were electric and using Igor's system.
-
I think the top 4 motors were Cobra,AXI,Plettenberg,Plettenberg.

Thanks Russell, that's an interesting list. y1

Kinda amazing. When they hold the F3A World RC pattern Championships, the first thing they want to know is what powerplants were the all the contestants using.

Some people think that, by copying whatever hardware the experts are using, that some of the success will rub off!

Possibly because the experts know what you need to be competitive. Developing a good stunt powerplant system can take years of careful experimentation by someone who knows what they are looking for.

Of course you have to fly, but for aspiring pilots it is helpful to know what is working. "We stand on the shoulders of giants"

My reason for starting this thread was purely technical interest. At age 75 (albeit in good health) and with a cabinet full of PA's and RO Jetts and Pipes, I've decided not to really explore the realm of electrics personally. I am however technically interested in what's working for everyone. Over the years I've copied pretty much what the "Big Guys" use and find that it nearly always works well for me too! No I don't fly as well as any of those guys but do fly well enough to tell the difference between what works and what doesn't. I'm always interested in the equipment others are using, even those not in the expert ranks.
An old habit developed from Motorcycle Flat Track racing in the 70's...it worked there too.

Oh damn. Well, I guess I need to throw away that article by Joe Shmoe on "hopping up stunt engines", and put the cutoff wheel back on my Dremel.

That is very true. If I do not count conversation from ancient times (compuserve etc) what is that "best" regulation, I spent 4 years developing proper formula (every week in winter I tested new and new software in gym) until I could really offer safe solution (in 2008). Not so easy as someone can think.

As was already written 1960, but there was unoffcial WCH in 1958 on Expo fair ... won by Jozef Gabris
