Something from our past
-
These were manufactured by the Stanzel Company.
They sold a ton of them until the chinese produced cheap knock offs.
-
Very cool, I had one as a kid. I bet most of us had one.
-
Gee, wish I had me one of them 'lectric planes!

I had one way too many years ago and I think I wore it out flying. The I found one for my son and I don't remember what happened to it. Would love to see them in the big department stores again or even in the hobby shops. D>K

I have two that are brand new in the box, and biplane version that is new in the box, and a couple I actually play with now and then!! They also made a race car that operated the same way, and I licked into one of those, and also a helicopter finally found it's way into my collection. They do just need a little bit of tip weight though!!

Yes they did. I found one new in box at a local toy show and got a good price on it. The other Electromic Flask models I got I had the hobby shop I was working at order in for me after I had read that Stanzel was shutting down operations. I also read that they were selling off kit inventory also and picked up several free flight kits and a couple small C/L lots. I don't know if these were older stock or if they were still producing kits at the time. I heard that they also had a great little museum dedicated to the Stanzel Brothers and the company, and I wonder if it's still in operation??

Looks like the museum is still open.

One thing that was not mentioned was that AMA Hall of Famer Dale Kirn built most of the models on exhibit at the museum.
In the 1950's the Stanzel brothers hired Dale Kirn to drive around the country and demonstrate monoline control.

De, you might know of the "bounty" that I think it was the Stanzel brothers had for a special cash award to the first person to win Open Stunt at the NATS using a monoline system??? I have it in my memory that it was in the range of $5000 that was put in an escrow account in a Texas bank?? I would have to thumb through "Do You Speak Model Airplane to see if Thornburg mentions that because I think he did a section on the Stanzel Brothers.

Yep, the Stanzels brothers had a standing offer of 10,000 (?) dollars for anyone who won stunt at the nats with monoline control.
No one ever did, the system is not precise enough for precision controline stunt.
Racing and speed? Yeah.
