Model Builder Magazine
« on: October 28, 2015, 04:08:49 PM »

Sometime back in the '70's I think there was a 1/2A model profile of the P-51 Mustang fighter set up for stunt, in M B Mag I had a set of plans, but someone borrowed them and they never came home again.

Does anyone remember this model, and does anyone have a set of plans to it?
Seems that the wing span was about 30", also.

 Any help will be appreciated...

All I recall is that (IIRC) it was a revision based on the "Pinto", which was essentially a scaled-down Oriental. Somebody kitted the "Pinto", and I'm not sure if it was Golden State Models (which got bought by Brodak) or maybe RSM. I'd think that Larry Renger might know more of this model that I, since he's into 1/2a's, and I'm definitely not. It's a short story of a love-hate relationship...mostly hate, and very little love.  S?P Steve

Dick Sarpolus published a series of good flying 1/2 profiles, many were warbirds. They had sheet wings and were set-up to use a Tee-Dee or Medallion .049. No landing gear and they were designed to stunt. The P-51 was one of them. It was kitted by Blackhawk Models for a brief time. At least one was published in Model Builder magazine. They also were featured in Flying Models and Model Aviation magazines. Plans for some of them are available through the AMA plans service. Are these the ones you were thinking of?...if not, disregard this post.8)
