I took the Yak-9 and the Magnum today and got some good flights on both. Despite technical camera difficulties, I got some good footage of both Wayne Robinson and me flying. Part of today's mission was to video the Yak-9 for some expert Fox run evaluation. I told my production assistant to start the camera. About a half our later it was time for another video and he said, "Oh, I was supposed to press the shutter button?". Soooo, no Yak video. I flew it about three times and that was the last flight. I decided to do a lazy 8 after the pattern was complete and ended in shutting off with no momentum and a hard bonk. It's just hairline crack in the fuse starting at the LE root, and I think 5 minutes and CA is all it needs. It might not have even been caused by the the bonk, as tiny fractures just seem to appear from time to time. Not even a broken prop. The epoxy core in that laminated fuselage has saved its ass before from more serious damage. That old Sterling is one of the most fun planes ever to fly.I sure am glad I bought my new electric starter. Since the cool weather set in, both of us have had trouble flip starting all of them. Only the Yak's Fox 35 is an easy flip start. Wayne had two Pathfinders, one a kit and the other an ARF, both with Super Tigres, a 45 and a 55. A little final trimming and Wayne was ready to put some patterns on them. The last flight, I have the video, was suffering from bad Sig fuel. It's old and I think the castor is clotting. It plugged everything up. We finally got it in the air and you can hear it struggling. Leaning out and overheating I think. But as always, great fun. Here's the first video, me flying the trusty old Magnum. I botched a couple of stunts and got them re-done on the next lap. I'm glad I didn't re-do any more because I cut it really close with the fuel. That was a full 6 ounces in the 45fx. Maybe the noisy old bearings are hurting my fuel economy.Full screen works best if you're watching on a real computer. I made the file small to help those with jerky video problemsI think I have a firm hold on the middle of the bottom third of the Intermediate crowd. But I wouldn't have got the pattern points on this flight.I'll post more videos as I get them crunched and uploaded.Flying makes me feel good!Rusty
