And can I get it at Home depot or Lowes?
Thanks!

Delrin (brand name), Acetal (generic name).

For some reason, known in the orient as POM, probably related to the formula? Nylon would work OK, but is a pain to machine as it is so soft. Good old Aluminum is easy to machine and readily available. Also, that should be a "lathe"; a "lath" is a strip of wood, which really is awful to use for machineing anything. ;)

It sure holds plaster on the walls, though. 8)
I have used nylon electrical spacers to make venturis a couple of times, but I was not using a lathe. I used a drill press, and an X-Acto. I don't recommend it...go with Delrin or aluminum.

UHMW (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) is an excellent material for that application. I have machined it many times with great success.

You can make the nylon spacers work but it is miserable to machine. The Acetal / Delrin is much better.
I did the drill press / knife scheme on a few nylon spacers.
You can also get the Acetal rod off the 'bay.

Take your pick, 5/8" or 3/4" dia is usually a good start.

McMaster-Carr usually delivers to me in SoCal in less than two days.
