Not much going on "anywhere"  I looked!!

Just to maybe get something going, this morning I actually flew the Beginner pattern (all of it!!) for the first time and it was at least recognizable. ;D

Also, I still have the model in pristine condition--I can use it again!

Great day in Alabama> j1

That isn't fair Robert. I'm just a beginner that can fly a mean circle. Two in a row if I really push myself.

Was going to post on here about the Accentor and Ro-Jett 40.  Have moved the leadouts forward a bit.   Moved line spacing in on the Fancher handle until it now measures 3 and 1/8th inches.  That Ro-Jett is one sweet engine for a novice like me.  Maybe by Wichita I will have it working, the Accentor that is.  Have ordered a Vector 40 rom Melvin for the Ro-Jett.  Later,  DOC Holliday

All through June and up to the middle of July I and my son were doing a LOT of flying - both C/L and R/C.

I also am only capable of flying the beginner pattern and only made it all the way through for the first time at the Sig contest.

Now I have family and professional priorities that have pushed flying (and posting on kewl forums) down the list a bit.  Son is off to scout camp for the week, just got my daughter back from a marching band boot camp (really) and I have to cram for a technical certification test.  Mother-in-law's birthday coming up in a few weeks so that will wipe that weekend off the flying calendar.

Jim,

Congrats. Flying any kind of recognizable pattern is difficult at first. Don't let Sparky or anyone push you into something more difficult.

I remember when I first started flying models and had the same feeling when I first started flying full scale airplanes. Everything seemed to be happening so fast and I couldn't seem to keep up.

That feeling will change as you build up more time. Eventually, you will "get ahead" of the plane and will be able to anticipate its every move. It's the same in any form of aviation. Hang in there.

I'll confess that when I came back to CLPA, after a thirty seven year layoff, I stayed with the Beginner pattern until I felt comfortable. Then it was an easy transition back to the full pattern.

I know I'll never have my teenage reflexes again, but the stunt pattern is still a lot of fun to fly.

Take care,

Ron

Thanks Ron,

We have similiar histories.  I experience much more tension while flying R/C pattern and learning the CLPA stuff than I ever have while giving basic or advanced full scale instruction or flying a tight approach, even.

When I was much younger, I flew CL for fun--never got serious about anything beyond inside/outside loops, inverted flight and lazy eights.  After about 40 years I want to learn the pattern, but I will have to do it at my pace.

I hope to attend the Memphis contest and maybe fly in Beginner.

Cheers,
Jim

Sparky,

With the Brodak, the SIG, the Nats, the World's, and a bunch of other fairly large meets...

I'd imagine many of the regulars now have more places to go (to fly at meets) and things to do (like trim, practice, repair, travel - and maybe even have some non-CLPA family vacation time) than a while ago.

Relax - you have a great site here. When time and other commitments allow, everyone will be right back at ya.

I'll be out for a week or so. Taking a non-flying vacation to a condo in the Idaho mountains. My plan: sit in the sun, read, and do as much of nothing as I can cram into a week. If it takes effort, I ain't doing it.

Adios muchachos. See you in a week.

Oh by the way I can't fly the whole beginners pattern either.
