I remember the TV commercials for it and wanted that SOOOOOOO bad, but it must have been an expensive toy. I go to all sorts of vintage toy shows and watch eBay , and FBV Market place for odd ball stuff and NEVER see any version of this. I have collected some Mattel Verti-Bird toy helicopters and figured out what is usually wrong with those and they are kind of fun to play with still. They had a similar toy that had a biplane that was called Barnstormer, and was supposed to be capable of loops and such, and have one of those stashed away but have never had the room to set it up and see if it works. next favorite was the Mattel Vroooom Racer whip control car. It had a noise mechanism in it that made a throaty roar when it rolled. I have a few of those and figured out how to fix the noise mechanism if it's not working. I fixed one up for Sean when he was a little kid and all the other kids on the street wanted to know where he got it, and he told them that I MADE it for him!!If I could have done that I might have ended up in the toy business!! I'm getting older but I can relive my childhood any time I want!!

A friend of mine had one, and after we saw how it worked, we quickly cloned it. It was ridiculously simple, a string, and a joystick, the rest of it was just set dressing. It was a very simple matter to put two screw eyes or hooks on a plastic model, that and some 12# monofilament and you were set. We had some of them that went over 100 feet with about 20 feet of drop, the far end was in a tree and the near end was over a hill and halfway across the front yard.

It was trickier than it first appears, particularly with very long runs - you could get it really cranking and had to slacken up to drop the slope at the right time so it slowed down by the time it got to the end, and not stop halfway down.

I kind of remember this as a young kid, but at the time I was more interested in turning my stingray into a motorcycle!

I just threw mine out. I had the Piper and they would give you spare propellers. After rubbing down the line with the silicone pad the plane would crash into the joystick breaking the prop. It was a neat toy but my all time favorite was the Verti-Bird Rescue ship. You had to hover and pickup the pieces and bring them back onto the ship using the hook on the bottom of the copter.
