Title: I Flew Today!
Post by: Skip Chernoff on January 16, 2018, 06:59:02 PM
After one of the coldest winters I can remember here in Philly ,the temp got to 41 degrees with zero wind. So....I grabbed my 1949 Polywog Chief and headed out to the field. My pal Steve Dinerman and Rich Martinez met me there to assist. My OS35s sprung to life and gave me a textbook engine run. That Chief is only 34 oz and a wonderful flyer. I flew the wheels off her. My pal Rich was standing there with his tongue hanging out for a flight so I said go get em'. He too had a ball with the old bird. We rolled up the lines, took out a couple of R/C ships for some R/C fun. I flew my 1941 Scientific Coronet scaled up to 72". She flies majestically. Rich crashed his foamie Ugly Stick on a low level inverted pass, but only knocked off the landing gear. I told him he got what he deserved for bringing out a foamie!!! A fun afternoon at the field....they're calling for snow tonight!.....PhillySkip......PS Go Eagles!!

Warmer in Philly today than Fort Worth.  And, I hear there was snow in Houston but we did not get any.

A warming trend is on the way.  Temperatures are forecast to reach 65 this weekend but maybe too windy to fly.

As I type it is still 21F degrees.   At one time I would have been bundled up and out flying with no thoughts of the cold .   The sun does feel good shining in the windows as my herd of dogs will attest to. H^^ H^^

Hey, Skip
We're getting cabin fever down here in SC too, and I've got the itch bad, counting the weeks till Spring. We'll start getting some good days in 4 or 5 weeks.

So Rich busted the gear and nothing else on an inverted pass, Lol. That's funny.
Here's a picture of one of you Philly guys really gutting out a chilly day:

Rusty that's me in the photo. The actual video is on our Philly Fliers FB page under "videos" .I was flying an ancient Midwest P63 with an Enya 35. I recently gave the plane to Mike Palko's nephew to learn on. We were actually flying in a blinding snow storm.Winds were steady, temps around 25degrees if my memory serves me well. We each took a flight then got the hell out of there! Steve D's hands didn't thaw out for a week. It was a challenge.
