Week-End Wonder
« on: March 29, 2016, 09:24:46 AM »
Thought I would post the plans of an airplane I built way back in the sixties, still have and recently recovered and powered by a McCoy 35. I originally flew this on a McCoy 19 back in the day. It is a take off of the Boxcar I think. It is a nice Sunday sport flier and worth the build. Most folks have enough scrap balsa laying around to build it. I built the first one using the plastic canopy, but replaced it with a balsa one painted black. The plans originally appeared in Flying Models. Richard

I remember this one, I was always going to build it but never got there. I had several McCoy's I could have used. Still have one, new in the plastic case, and several older used ones.
Does the rubber band wing mount really work?

John, It's no stretch to say it does work. All the force is directed to the fuselage mounted bellcrank. I usually use lots of rubber bands and recommend a hard point of some sort be glued to the wing trailing edge to prevent damage to the trailing edge. This could be a dowel inserted into the TE or a plywood piece glued to the top of the TE. I put allot of flights on it back in the sixties. It sat in my garage all these years so decided to recover and make airworthy again. Richard

Richard,
Thanks for the info. I may have to build one. I have an almost finished flite streak wing some one gave me, no BC installed so it would be an easy conversion.
