I figured out what happend
« on: November 02, 2006, 04:54:32 PM »
While visiting the chat room Last night we had 8 people chatting. The server went into overload. I immediately call the provider and asked what was up? Well it seems we were under attack again tonight. Subsequently Some IP addresses got banned. These IP addresses were bombing us with rapid requests. To the tune of 4000 combined hits in a few minutes. So if your IP address got banned tonight and you cant log on from the computer that was hitting this site, you will have to send me an email and explain to me exactly what you were up to before I will un-block the addresses.

FIX: If your are running a NETGEAR Router you need to update your firmware. As of last night it went out of date. Go to their website and do so before you get locked out. If you don't have a router no worry. However everyone who is on a network should be sure the router has the current software.

If you are in the chat room do not open multi windows to chat as this sends to many requests to the server. Just use the one window.
Thanks

Good for you Sparky. Don't let them get away with anything. This is a good site and we need to keep it that way and open.

Good Find Robert!
With Sparky's help, I was able to get back in here. As he mentioned, the Netgear router was screwing up with the multiple server requests.Mine did it, and you should check to see if yours is current if you have/use one. The firmware was easy to get from www.NETGEAR.com      Select model number from the scroll down list under the download tab. Follow the on-screen prompts and go to town. Be sure that you write down the firmware version you currently have, probably v1.0.11_1.0.7NA   which is for model WGR614V6 wireless routers. Robert will be able to tell you when your act has cleaned up. For the technical explanation, this is what Netgear said about what the firmware upgrade does:

WGR614v6 Firmware Version 2.0.13_1.0.13NA

This firmware is for North American users only.

Published Sep. 13, 2006

New Features

1. Added Intel Viiv support.

Fixes

1. Fixed the bug which caused the router to reboot when PPTP server disconnects the session

Hope this helps, and Thanks again Robert!
