I will be by the middle of June when we get to fly around here...Rain on snow makes fantastic ice mountains... I know, I almost tore my driver's side door sliding down my driveway this morning. I had it open to see out the back, the car would not stop and it got caught on a 4ft bank of ice from my snow thrower.... HB~> HB~> HB~> HB~> R%%%%

Lets see now, Move to the south and its hot and wet, large insects, hurricanes and if you move to Florida your living in a swamp.
Midwest, hot,dry/flood,boring,bad winters, lack of rain, too much rain
southwest, Hot, did I mention hot. pollution, bad water, grass is a luxury, some flooding whenever it decides to rain.
west,washington you see the sun 12 x's a year, don't miss it, rain,rain,rain,rain,did i mention rain.
cold,wet,rain,
Oregon not a whole lot more to say.
California, You have to wear a sticker on your forhead saying that exposure to you can and has been known to cause cancer, expensive, water wars are warming up, their really broke, expensive, oh i said that it's expensive..
The only place that i know of that is fairly ok is where I'm at. Why because this place is so bad that it really doesn't want to snow too much here or rain too much.Heck the sun don't shine unless someone gives it permission, cheap relatively, the bugs know better then to bite as we bite back. Yes indeed I wouldn't want to live anywhere else when I got everything else that you guys got. Well there is one exception. I don't have to wear that California warning sticker. LOL

in socal you can fly all year around. Ive been here so long (1950) that I dont know any better, If there is better. I prefer the sacramento area, but so cal is the best for flying while your up to your S in snow, we're enjoying 70 + degree weather It snowed about 6 inches here in palmdale a  couple weeks ago, in 2 days you'd have never known it was there. Warmed right back up again. Bob usta live here. I bet he misses whittier narrows. naner naner naner bob LL~  jim

Ironically, my kid wants to go to college in New England so there'll be four discernible and evenly spaced seasons.

This is instead of Oregon, where a rainy fall often segues into a rainy spring, without a noticeable winter (or we get thick freezing rain that strips branches off of trees, but no snow).  Unlike western Washington, the Willamette valley does usually dry out pretty thoroughly in August and September, when the brush that's been growing fast all year dries out and catches fire.  (Both eastern Oregon and eastern Washington are high desert -- none of this 'rain all the time' stuff applies there).

I can understand his frustration with New England weather.  This morning, we looked out the bedroom windows and saw that the snow was up to the top of the glass, between snowfall and roof slides.  Our last storm a day or so ago dumped almost another foot.  I bought a snow blower this winter because the guy who plows us out needs to sleep sometime.  This season, it has taken both of us to keep my driveway cleared out. Still, I would not trade it for the world.  I have lived in New Hampshire since 1976.  It is my home. y1

Yes, the Bladder Grabber is still in force. Cool contest at Harvey Field. I'd say look at Tucson. Better flying for a larger part of the year. Here in the Puget Sound area, we get into a pattern this time of year. 4 or 5 days of rain, then a break of a day or so between storms, then 4 or 5 days of rain (Howard's right, at least we don't have to shovel it). When those days between storms fall on the weekend, I get to fly even. When they don't, I look out the window of my office and sigh a lot.

Brett. do you remember 1971 when we had that cold snap and it had rained then froze. Even the cable cars weren't running! They anounced on the news for people not to go outside in the city because they would slide downhill and wouldn't be able to get back up. they had an enormous amount of traffic accidents. That billboard for the san mateo times next to the bayshore said 18 f. I was driving the girlfriend to work at transamerica. I turned around at the airport rxit and took her home.  when we went back I said I wish I had a camera to take a pic of that. No one would ever believe it was ever that cold here. I took the day off too. san francisco has it winters in the summer usually LL~  jim

Rafael,
As usual we have had our 6 weeks of winter here in Florida and its done. I have some really small bellcranks that can be adapted to mosquitos you ought to see them go inverted in a near zero radius turn not to mention fly backwards.
Today will be a really comfortable day high in the upper seventies light winds a very good flying day for those who do not have to work. The missus is freezing her butt off in Tenn. while I am looking for a nice light shirt for work found the shorts already. Now where is the tanning lotion had it yesterday.

You would be better in Old England.  we do have all the things mentioned above but in moderation.  In a good year you can fly most of the summer and the rules are not as onerous as seems to be the case in California.  One of the main problems is finding places to fly

Old England is kind of like it is here in Seattle except we have pressure washers to knock the moss off of the houses. Not sure why that hasn't caught on over there. I get sent out to RR Derby on occassion but only when it rains.

Nope. Andover, Mass. I fly at a Haverhill field off of Rt121 in the Plaistow/Haverhill Border. We also fly at a soccer field in N. Andover. Basically, I start flying at a field that is not near any houses until the cops come and throw me out. If I was good enough, I could fly at the old Lucent building where I worked for 18 yrs as a Sr. Test Engineer. But it is a 1/2 mile sq. of paved parking lot. Not good for crashes! I've been building the guts to approach the owner to legally fly at a far away spot, but I do not have the skills to do it, representing AMA, and I do not want to ruin the possibility. It will be an ideal area to fly control line. Next time you come over, give me a note and I will make sure to hook you up for flying. The way the weather is going, it will be a while though... As far as Miami, we have 2 flying seasons, spring and fall. Winter, all 6 weeks of it usually isn't too bad, except windy. Never a single snowflake. Summers? That's another story. 95* with 99% humidity. The hurricanes can be fun, but no more so than a northern ice storm, or a midwest tornado. At least you can see a hurricane coming. Tornados, you come home from work and have no house.

I am over in the Boston area for most of May, so I hope I can catch up with a bit of stunt flying when I get there. I will PM both of you later and check to see what my schedule is...........that means ask my wife! I can't quite place Andover, but I think I have seen signs when I take the trip to Marblehead. Andrew, how about Wrentham? It's close to Boston and has a huge outlet mall. You wife can go shopping while you play.

The field is easy to get to: goto maps.google.com and type the following in the search: 42.079475, -71.326064

It will points you smack in the middle of our field. You can even see two circles there.

Hey Rafael,
You have to admit, no trimming, no mowing the lawns, no other projects outside to attend to. I just gives me the reason to build, build, build.
During this time, it gives me a time to think of what I want to build and how to do it by springtime. Would't have it any other way. Oh, by the way, I live in Connecticut.

Well since I'm in New England, I got well over 2 feet of snow last night, so I got a snow day.  I went out to shovel the driveway around 11, when my dad snow blowed it around 7 in the morning.  I got rid of a foot of snow, and due to the extremely windy weather, along with 3 or 4 inches of snow that just fell.  2 hours later when I went to go work on the plane, it looked like I didn't even shovel the driveway earlier.  Spring had better come fast  HB~> HB~>

Potholes on the road means the spring is coming! How else can you tell season change!? New England states spend a fortune on road repairs, yet the most bankrupt state has perfect roads year round. Where do you spend the money people!? Burn it to create smog over LA!?

Reading the lastest posts to this thread, I got to thinking,  We had more snow this year than the last couple of years put together.  First time since being a crossing gaurd that we had three snow days off.  It stayed on the ground longer too.   Just today I am on duty in my coat, no gloves or stocking cap, not even the hood up on the coat.   A year ago was using same overcoat, with stocking cap and heavy mittens trying to stay warm.  No snow on the ground last year either.  My co-worker said something about more snow or rain coming.  I'll take the snow over the rain anyday.   H^^

Well, it pounding rain here again. 48°. Sigh. But hey, I just remind myself that it isn't snow. At least when it stops raining and the sun comes out (however briefly), there will be nothing on the ground to cause problems. Once it stops raining, it's largely gone (given decent drainage - and this area usually has that).

California did one thing right. All tolls and fines etc go strictly towards road maintenance. Most states like Pa have the funds go to the general fund where every thieving member of you state govt has access to it for their own favorite pork  project. So your always running on empty when it comes to road work.

Hey, spring has arrived in the the Puget Sound. 46°, sheets of rain, mild wind and occasional lightening. Sounds like flying weather here. Well, except for the lightening.
