I am sick and tired of.....
« on: August 15, 2009, 09:45:03 PM »
everyone else having all the fun!!!

All I have to do is finish the lead outs.

I will give it a test flight tomorrow after church.

This was a laster cut ARC and it went together easy. There are a few things to watch out for and had to shave the nose down for exhaust, and prop clearence. I had a few snags, but all in all it was fun. Now to see if it will fly- then try to slob it! #^

Make sure you know how much fuel you have left  in the tank.  Our Bi-Slob went in because I didn't know how much fuel was left.  Fixed it in an hour and monokoted the wing and flew it that day.

By the way, that looks like a good slob  H^^

When I built the two Slobs for Melvin and myself, Jim Lee said put only the size tank in that will fit.  He stated that at about three minutes you will be getting tired.  He was so right and I fly on 58 foot lines by .015.  It is a blast to fly as my brother-in-law will attest to.  It is slow enough he doesn't get dizzy.  Have fun,  DOC Holliday

I think it looks great!  I have never built a slob before.  I have flown one.  It was awesome.  I did square overhead eights.  ~>

Can't really call it a "Slob" until its been busted up a fw times.  A real shame, it looks GREAT now, (uh, great for a Bi-Slob anyhow...)

Dennis,
I like to think of it as "character".  I told Michael a while back that when an airplane has flaws or dings then it has "character".  He told me his fleet has lots of "character" then.  His Skyray 35 has a little more "character" after an accident at the back of the truck yesterday involving a bike and chair and a small tripping incident.  I was up until about 1230 getting it back in shape for today and it looks like it served him well.

Paul,
For the Slobs, don't focus on pretty, focus on fuel proof!!.  Looks good so far.  Have fun with it.  Remember that you will be a lot more confident flying a bird with a lot of "character" right on the deck than one that has no flaws.

John:

Big Art has a 'Slob that is RTF but as of yet has no "character".  It is on the list of things to fly yet this year.

Michael is doing a great job with the Skyray.  He is a heck of a flyer - looks VERY WELL COACHED!

Flite update...
It went round and round yesterday. I did try and slob it but the Fox was set a little on the lean side so it would just climb right out.  Ryan wants to go two up. I need to get better at slob'n before I give two up a try.

I think this is going to be a lot of fun. #^

PS- Hey John, all my planes have character. Even the new slob had dents, and patches in it before I flew it. HB~>

Paul,
Character is good.  Don't worry about having experience to fly the Slob.  Without it you might find some cool new maneuvers to do.

Hi Paul,

Now you can get all the stuff that you never did with a *Stunt Plane* done and over the worries!  Take soem CA and clear tape to the field and fly the snot out of it.  See whatr it will do and then try things you don't think it will do!  An old timer told me a LONG time ago: "When the plane is released, don't expect it to land in one piece."  That makes sense now, some 40 plus years later..........

I have decked my Slob several times.  By brother-in-law did the figure 9.  So far it is replace prop or patch covering.  At such slow speeds it doesn't have much of a glide ratio.  Have fun,  DOC Holliday

Hey Robert,
You will need to move up to intermedate if you plan to try and beat me next year! <=
And I think you just let me win. y1

Paul,

When Ron Pavloer and I published the BiSlob, we had no idea that we would be contaminating a large part of the world.

I am so sorry that you have caught the disease.  There is no known vacine for a cure.

Have a good time!

Paul,

I will NOT be in intermediate next year and if I do move up it will be because I have a certian perpetual trophy in my living room after July 5th.  Balieve me, I didn't let you win.  I just got my first first at Paducah and look who I was flying against.  There were two others flying against me.  They were myself and I.  Oh well, enough brevity (that's on purpose).  If you're going to be at FCM or Southern Indiana the next couple weeks, I'll see you there, otherwise I guess next Brodaks.  I'm going to try to get into the same spot.

In some parts of this great country you don't even have to know the pattern to fly Intermediate.  One of the guys I helped didn't even get to fly Beginner as I told him to fly Intermediate.  At the time I started watching him he couldn't do the squares, triangle and clover.  He was brilliant on the other maneuvers.  By the last flight of the day he was doing full pattern.  First contest he blew everyone away in Intermediate.  When he moved to Advance he quit flying.  He was placing in the top three most of the time in ADV.  Anyway, have fun,  DOC Holliday

Truth be told, I was flying the Firecat yesterday, doing vertical 8s and 4 leaf clovers etc.  While talking to my flying buddy and mentioning them he said he had no idea what I had been doing.  I guess that's one of the reasons I'm still in beginner.
