The operation of this site has run flawlessly for 7 years and when I make a decision on what stays and what gets dropped. IT WILL WORK. This is all over classifieds. But I get people telling me on what should or should not stay that have never seen the control panel. When I figure out a solution I will bring them back. But not until then.

No debate, mine was simply a question.
-
Mine was only a question.
I am sure you meant no harm but I get 50 of those a day. On same thing. I am making decisions to keep this site open. This is not about money. I know the auction site is being used and its free. WHERE"S THE BEEF!
-
The only beef I have is....I can't find it! LOL I know its right there in front of my face somewhere, but I just can't seem to lock eyes on it! Man, talk about being old! LL~ H^^

I must be looking at the wrong auction site.
Because the one I am looking at is not free!

At the risk of being deleted (yet again) I can tell you the VAST majority of members on your site want a regular classifieds section. Maybe you're not explaining well, but nobody can see exactly why the classifieds must go instead of the several areas of SH that few could care about. If its all about size, dump the areas of the forum no one uses, not something that most agree is important to have. Among a community of modelers, trade is important and an auction site is hardly the same thing.
Robert, I support you and SH. I donate. I buy shirts. I spread the word. I even signed up for rite auction. But I warned that no classifieds would send members elsewhere and that is exactly what's happening. That bothers me because on the whole, Stunthanger is the best C/L forum on the web. You're right that I've never seen the control panel, so have really have no idea about how to do it, but I urge you find a way to make it work with the regular buy/sell forum reinstated. Obviously, if you're getting 50 emails a day about this, it's important.
(edited for harshness)

Sparky, the above message is a bit unclear. Maybe we can settle things down on this subject with some clarification and better explanation...
Are you saying that deleting the Classified section is only temporary?
Clint was maybe wee bit harsh, but I highly agree with the points he's making. Any good modeling site needs a straight-up buy/sell classified section. This is a great site, but having no classifieds leaves a large hole.

Maybe (just maybe), those of us that do NOT want to use eBay just don't want to use an auction "service"? I understand why Robert is looking for ways to pay the bills, but if very few of us use "riteauction", it's not going to help him. Are there other alternatives? My alternate suggestion is simple; find a better host or get our own server...but I've done neither, and don't know chit about either.
It might help (or not) get us on the Rite Auction bandwagon if somebody was to go through what happened on their recent sale there. What was the item? Did you get the $ that you hoped? What were the costs? Any silliness? Overall, were you happy with the experience? Would you do it again? Would you do anything differently? I'm hoping that such a disclosure would help, and it doesn't seem likely to make things any worse. H^^ Steve

I bid on and won auction for 2 engines. I put in the only bid at the sellers starting price, so in effect it was the same as the selling in the classified. No issues..

I would be happy to use Rite Auction and had planned to for some Airplane items in the future. Here is my dilema however.
1) What about a WANTED ad listing. Sure you can hope and wait for the item to come up on the auction sites but I was already doing that.
2) In the past I have posted Craigslist ads in far away states (from me) where an Airplane was up for sale that someone could scoop up. You cant do that anymore.
3) I donated some trainers to a stunthanger member who trains new pilots. I put a classified out there to find a new home and gave these planes to him. I even paid the shipping.
So I am all over the Auction thing at some point. It really doesnt matter that to me that the classifieds are "just now closed" as I havent been able to post anything there for a long time.
It is clear that those 3 scenarios above are already outside of the Auction Box.

FLASH - OK I looked specifically after this posting and I see that there is a place for WANTED ads on Rite Auction. Was anyone else aware of this? No one is using them of course.

What's wrong with a "door" in place on this site, that when opened puts you in "Rite Auctions" ? :!
-
the reason this is so hard you have to push another button.
-
you can set this up as a classified. Just state your price and that's it. No auction needed. The only reason for the complaining is a little more work and its NEW and diffrent.
-
You can post a want add on the site.

Hi all
If you don't mind me sticking my nose into here, maybe there could be a little fee for one to advertise stuff and that cold help cover the cost, then interested people could contact the seller via PM, which would decrease the need for storage space, since there wouldn't be reply messages.
I don't know if that could be done, and if it would work, but it might just be a way for having the classifieds back.
Hope I've been of help.

This is not the US government. Cuts must be made and more may have to. I tried to place a alternative up first. This picture represents the problem. The suitcase being the physical size of the server and the clothes being the threads placed here.

some have another idea on what to cut? But let me have your email address so I can direct the people who bitch to you.

Gotcha - Yes I already added that you could to the bottom of my post.

the reason this is so hard you have to push another button.
No idea what you mean by this

Some old farts have a built-in tendency to go on strike whenever there's a change in their routine LL~ LL~ LL~ Another button to push will be like the straw that broke the camels back for some folks..............not me though, I'm flexible and multi-faceted ;D

I'll try asking again:
Are you saying that deleting the Classified section is only temporary?

Yes and the limit when they come back will be 1 week

Sounds like a workable deal, hopefully they'll be back sooner rather than later.
Thanks! H^^

Does your auction site offer a "buy it now" option? This works very well on fleaBay.
Some people don't like bidding because they don't have control over the final price (wah :-*), or patience to wait for an auction to end.
"Best Offer" is another option.

If there is to be a Classified Section, then there be charges for the use of it. Otherwise go to the auction site. My opinion only. Even if it is only worth two cents.

Welcome to the human condition. Everybody has an opinion and a viewpoint.
The problem is two fold.
YOU have to learn to ignore most of the comments.
The rest of the comments are just wrong.
Though I may also be wrong...
