Flying with my buddy Rich Malick Saturday He had a problem with his lines. When He landed and I recovered the plane this is what happened, it took pliers to pull this apart. I have NEVER seen this happen before. This was at the airplane end.

A piece of tubing over the small end of the clip will prevent this . Combat flyers can end up with all kinds of line clip issues .Tubing over the line clips at the handle end also prevents snags and miss adjustments from happening in the heat of battle .

Interesting, Rich is an old combat flyer.

Randy,
I thought it was the pitman's job to check for that kind of thing prior to launch...... Glad to hear there was a happy ending to the story. Get Angie at the handle yet?

Yep , I also use 2 (up and down line) Silicon tubes long enough to cover both eyelets and clip connector.
I also use them with handle connectors.
Never failed.

I'm a failure.
No not yet, they're on a visitation schedule that dictates allot. She has the kids this weekend but the forecast is for heavy winds. I hope Friday evening will settle down and give us a little time, 18 MPH is a little too high. Oh BTW, don't let her Mom hear you call her Angie, its Angela! HEHE

I had that very thing happen at a spring contest in Huntersville a few years back. My pit man launched my All American Sr. He saw the clip but just after he let it loose. The full up should have told someting was not right. LL~ LL~ LL~
Just before landing the clip snapped back into proper postion, and the plane went straight into the ground. I still have the bell crank. H^^
That sucks Ty, it took pliers to get these separated. I saw Rich holding nearly full up and knew there was something wrong.

Wait until you have the cable slip on one of the multi adjustable handles. Wa letting a friend fly one of my planes so I could see how it was flying. He adjusted the cable for his self and then didn't get the wing nut tight enough. After doing several passes up right and inverted he did several loops and eights. Then I noticed he was holding almost full down on the handle and flying level. Also I have saved many planes planes I have launched by checking the leadout clips before looking at the pilot.

Hardly a failure Randy as there are not many that do, especially the spousal recruits. I see that Angela got out and soloed. Congratulations to you and her. Good choice for the next airplane. I think that the big ones are easier to fly but their impacts usually cause a little more damage. Looking to her more about your adventures.

That's exactly what I said to Rich when I got to the plane and I've been doing this since 1957.
