Hy Johnson memorabilia
« on: October 21, 2024, 07:47:23 PM »
While here in re-hab for my back surgery I mentioned my hobby of flying model airplanes.  A lady said that her grandfather flew model airplanes too and manufactured model engines.  Remembering that Hy  Johnson was from Brigham City, Utah, I asked what his name might be.  She said Hy Johnson so I said that I knew Hyrum Johnson as that was what I think I remember him saying was his full name.  She was shocked that I knew him.  Hyrum was a familiar Utah Mormon name.
She contacted her younger relatives telling them this and they were very interested  as they had a garage full of his stuff and thought that some of it maybe should be in a museum or such or at least find someone that was interested in it.  I told her about the AMA Museum as a possibility
The stash is located in Downey CA so If someone in the area is interested in pursuing this I can put them in contact with them.  They are thrilled to find someone that remembers or knew Hy and would like to know more about him.  I am sure that there are some of the So Cal senior modelers that knew Hy and might be interested in pursuing this.  Who knows what might be there.
Send me a PM and I can forward contact info to you.

Jimmy,

Hope your recovery is going well!

The Valley Circle Burners traditionally hold the Hi Johnson contest with stunt and carrier at Sepulveda Basin. We have struggled post-covid, and especially with the flooding that covered the circles in mud last winter, but we hope to get back to it. Hi is definitely remembered at the Basin!

Maybe we can talk about any memorabilia for the AMA museum. I'm not far (distance-wise) from Downey.
