Anyone kits his designs? Or all are scratchbuilt?

Hi Jamie,  As far as I know only plans, no kits.  It would nice if someone would at least do a short kit.

Actually at least one of his Warbirds was kitted!  I'm not sure which one but I have the kit.  I bought the kit several years ago at a VSC!   Too late to go rummaging around in the shop now but I'll look it up tomorrow!

I did a set of ribs for his P-38 for a customer so I can cut ribs for that one.
but you'll have to get the plans from Don.

Jamie,

The Dauntless was kitted (short kit) by a company (I forget their name) that was planning to kit all of Don's designs.  The Dauntless was the only one they did.

Lazer Works does have a short kit of the Hellcat.  I purchased one.  It is well done.  They will also laser cut short kits from any plans you have.  So, if you have a favorite warbird that you want, just contact them.

There was a man in Albuquerque that did the Dauntless, I do not think he is doing the kits anymore.

Yes the Snelson family.  I have one of the kits and have an engine for it also.   Reason I haven't built it yet is the amount of lead required in the nose.  There is a picture of one flying on here some where.  I have several flights on the B-25 and as I told David Trible yesterday I think in the right hands it would do good in competition.  If it wasn't so much trouble I would love to see the one called the bamboo bomber for .15 size engines. Jamie,
Call Don Hutchinson. He is selling any and all his Warbird plans at a tremendous savings. They are on a flash drive that you take to Kinko's and print, at the size you want.

These plans are available to all...get'em!

Here's a picture of the 'other" SBD in ABQ.

The name of Jim's  company was "Control Line Central" (CLC). The picture is of the kit prototype that I made for Jim when I lived in Gallup NM. Like most of the short nosed warbirds in the series it required an ounce or two (I forget) of built-in nose weight (shown on the plans). I flew it in Tucson one year at VSC (not in competition) and it flew GREAT! with a 40FP. Today I would use an LA-46. Using the lazar cut parts it was not too difficult to build although the dual flap set-up took some time to get right.
