dose anyone have results from Huntersville

This is all I can remember, so hopefully someone will pitch in with the missing info:

Steve Fitton won classic, and Charlie Reeves won OTS. the five in expert were ordered as: Derek Barry, Steve Fitton, myself, Gene Martine, Charlie Reeves

Here's Profile and Intermediate. Wish I'd taken pics of the others, next time I will.

Matt Matt Matt,

How was it that you let those two OLD guys beat you?

I thought you were young and with young reflexes!  Next thing I am going to hear is that the OLD guy Chris Rudd is beating you. Don't let me loose faith in our young generation  now!  :)

Working on all the results

With age comes experience and knowledge.  Older flyers statistically should prevail.

It hasn't yet worked in my case.

It's good to see results like this -- I get to keep track of all these guys I only know by name on the forum.

Hey!!!!

Actually Matt was flying very well.  His Thundergazer is one heck of a good flying design and he had a great motor run and good trim, but the circles at Huntersville are surrounded by trees that are growing very rapidly and can make even light winds very challenging.  Saturday the air was turbulent enough that we could not finish a pattern with any of our Pampa planes till evening, and Classic stunt was kind of *hang on and hope*  time.  On my first round flight my Nakke went free flight at one point and actually hit the end of the lines hard enough to damage the leadout exit.

Sunday started out calm to almost dead, and Derek's choice of flying a PA-40 powered Nakke looked like a good one-the light small model didn't seem to have the wake turbulence issues the larger pampa planes had.  Matt had to do *a lot* of backing up on his flights, and then haul ass back to the center of the circle to not hit a tree.  The wind started to steady up by my second round flight and it finally chose a direction with less obstructions so it was relatively smooth.  The Advanced guys quickly had their hands full as the wind rapidly increased after expert was over.(Eddy's remonstrations about lost points are accurate but by the second round I think those guys were getting nervous about the wind, which may have been only 6-8 at first but after going over the trees, parking lot, porta potty and the bleachers it was clearly getting rough out there.)  By noon it was very breezy and several dust devils came through.  It looked like disaster but the dust devils threaded their way between the pits and the circles without hitting anything.

I can't wait to see how Matt's plane flies in the clean air of the L pad this summer!

Hey, Steve, while y'all's wind was coming through the trees swirling, the same wind settles down when it gets up to the grass field where us little guys were flying. They combined Beginner and Intermediate. Here's my buddy and coach flying in our good wind and knocking down 1st place in Intermediate.

I present Mister Wayne Robinson. Kicked my ass by 8-1/2 points. Musta been that slick landing.

Steve pretty much hit the nail on the head regarding the conditions Saturday and Sunday. I flew three times Saturday before the wind died down and didn't even get a full pattern in on any of those three flights. Steve had a radical idea and suggested an early dinner and heading back to the field for some good practice when the wind died down. His idea worked to perfection and we each got about 4 flights in each between Steve, Gene Martine and I.

My official flights were both pretty interesting.  The winds were very light to almost dead.  I got knocked around by my wake turbulence on my outside loops, and the wind came up slightly but perpendicular to where I placed the judges.  The wind was so light that I just kept it across from the judges.  My second official the wind kept shifting all over the place and I kept moving my maneuvers around trying to find a spot with better tension.  By the time Steve and Derek were up, the wind settled down and blew in one general direction rather than 5.

The Thundergazer is flying great! I can't wait to see how it works in Muncie this summer!

This was one of my practice flights from Saturday night.  The only official I got on video was Steve Fitton's...if I ever get around to it, I'll get the video off the camera and upload it and post it.

I didn't. I don't like having kids this close to me on the scoreboard, I prefer the old days where I was the kid beating the old guys.

Yes,

It was pretty bad getting beat up on  by a 8 year old . 27 years later , he is flying better than ever,  and still the kid to beat.

Would you please send me the full-resolution scoreboard pictures?  Better yet, the lowdown on who flew what.  Thanks.

BINGO.......

DB just put himself in the old man category!!  He was the "kid" not that long ago...So where does that put me????

It IS good to see some younger blood in the upper levels now.

Ancient, I think. I'm pretty close to the same boat.

Derek also found out that the nature of the event changes a bit when you are *supposed to* win.

So where does that put me????

From the viewpoint of possibly the oldest US stunt team member ever, you seem a youthful whipper-snapper.

Sure did, the solution was to send all the liberals to Norway...

I am always "supposed to win". Even if it is <.5 points...

Gavin is 16 with a car and a job, I think that officially puts me in the "old man" category. Only three more to go...

We need more young kids to beat up on the old men in the stunt circles.   I remember one the first time he beat his Dad,  right Todd Lee.

I remember the 1992 KOI old time stunt. This old guy 51 at the time had won the event five times in a row. This young kid Derek beats him. The kid feels so bad he tries to give the trophy to the old guy. The old guy left out the same maneuver on both flight. How could that happen? I guess I gave away some points that day.
