My new plane: The SL-3
« on: June 28, 2013, 02:24:54 PM »
I couldn't get it finished in time to fly at Brodaks, but I came close.  I have to finish making a tank for it and it needs a 1 and 1/4 rise header for the exhaust system instead of the 1 inch rise currently installed.  This is a redesign of my 2nd Silver Lancer with a built-up wing and other changes to improve its flying.  PA-61 rear-exhaust.  58 ounces.

Yep, that looks about right, 2) V12's should just about match the power of you PA61 to scale.  y1

Looks great Scott, and that's a really good weight! Looking forward to flight reports.

Very cool.  I like the tail shape.  I like the colors, too, although they're kinda Fittony.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.  I probably should have called it the "Yellow and White Lancer" but instead opted for "SL-3".

Unfortunately, I have not flown it yet.  Just too busy with flying and vacations.  Once building season commences I should be able to finish the tank and get it into the air.

Looks awesome Scott

I think you should have it ready for DEMO flight at the NVCL contest next month....COME ON.... its only a tank and header......my grandmother could get that done  #^

I think you should start working again so you have some time do devote to your building, this retirement stuff is really weighing you down.

Just kidding, really like it Scott

That is a really neat looking plane. Great graphics, unique farkles and a clear canopy give it a familiar "30's Air Racer" theme. Well done!

I would certainly enjoy seeing some more photos----Please.

Here are some more photos....

Of course, I like to fly my own planes, so this is supposed to be me.  Doesn't look like me at all, but I'm sure that Tim S. and Phil S. will claim that it looks just like me!

I got a couple of videos from Windy about cockpits, so have to thank him for inspiration!

And more...

Valve covers were important to include to get the right look.

Some paint-stand photos....

And a few more...

The belly is rubbed out but I haven't got the top done yet.  You'll notice the absence of the fuel filler tubing.  Tim may have to come over and twist my arm to get me to stop procrastinating on finishing the tank.....

Yes, very well done. The cockpit detail and clear canopy really bring the concept to life and is nicely executed.

Thanks for the detail pictures of the plane.   It looks great.  Now be real sneaky and remove the IC engine and install an electric.  No tanks or tubing to worry about.

Thanks Ty!  No plans are available, but Bob Hunt has suggested a number of times that I should get it published.  I would like go with Flying Models to support them.  Otherwise, it'd be Stunt News.  But first I better make sure it flies!

I made the tank yesterday and now have to figure out how to hook up a wiggly rudder (I made this modification on my second Silver Lancer and it helped a great deal)   Who knows - I might even get it into the air this weekend.
