Waymer Field in Huntersville is getting a major face lift! Both asphalt circles are getting the cracks filled and a couple coats of sealer and lines repainted. Additionally, the lower circle which had a significant dip at one end has been repaired to almost level again. I think the divot I left in the upper circle with my late stunt plane was fixed too. Come on out for some flying and fellowship.

I went by the field today and they were finishing paintings the white lines. The swimming pool on the lower circle is now closed, filled in. They went back and filled the cracks in the top circle. Both cifrcles were finished when I left today. RC field was getting finishing touches.

A few Pictures of field . The repairs included fixing a dip in the advanced circle , repairing all cracks with patch and sealant , then sealing advanced and expert circles ,
We are flying this Saturday for the first time since the repairs close the park. The Rc runway was repaired, fixed settlement dip and resurfaced can.
The flying site has never been better, this is a county parks dept facility , all grass cut and circles maintained by the Parks Dept.
We pay a park pass fee of $ 25 per year for full access to the facility.
-
You guys are so lucky. Take care of those people. H^^
-
This is similar to what we pay for Buder Park here in St. Louis, only our permit is 30 bucks a year. We just had our main square pad repaved and the donut and speed circle sealed, but not the nest of jobs in either case. The costs of material for the repaving and sealing were paid from the filed fund built up from the permit funds. Our site also has a carrier deck/circle and room for three combat circles in the grass beyond all the others. One of the oldest continuously used flying sites in the country. Good luck and have fun at your event!
Type at you later,

Pictures from today,
We can fly stunt from each end of runway on X .. Combat and carrier circles on this end of runway , lots of grass, and there is a well groomed grass OTS circle to the right of the paved circles .
At the October contest On Saturday Oct 21 , we have 5 competition circles going at one time and one practice circle open..
-
We were at the field all day for the annual 1/2 A club contest. The field repairs look great, all of the cracks in asphalt are filled and sealed. The circles have the borders moved back to give more space around the circles,
The shelter is getting a new roof and some wood rreplaced and new paint. We have the fire ants on the run with weekly talstar treatments before the contest.
Anyone that is coming to the site before Friday morning , you will need access to the field if the gate is locked.e mail text or call me and I will get you in .7048601079..... Willddavis@msn.com....

Do any of you guys know if The Winston SALEM field is still there (Hobby Park)? It still shows up on the google maps. I used to fly there Sparingly - had three babies so Ididn't get much time - Tom Luper and Kent Tysor used to fly there.
Great guys!
Was just wondering...

The Winston Salem field at Hobby Park is still very active, Bill Mandakis, terry Mcdowell, tony ominus , tommy luper , Phil Bailey fly there quite a bit,
Kent Tysor has been out of the hobby for several years , I stay in contact with him, he is doing some race car hobby stuff, he judges at the Huntersville contest and has been building a new ringmaster lately ,
Tommy Luper is still the man to beat in OTS , and any other event he chooses to fly , good group of guys, most will be at Huntersville October 20 .

Hey Guys,
Do I need to get a Park Pass before showing up on Saturday, I'm driving in from Wilson, NC
Al T.
-
No, Al, anyone can come and go. That's just for the guys in the club that use this as their regular flying field throughout the year.
A lot of times only one of the two lanes at the gatehouse is open, so don't feel freaky about having to enter on the wrong side of the road.

Hot damn, I'm feeling it now.
Despite all the bumps for me in the road leading up to this contest, today's final test and tune field trip sealed the deal. I'm happy that for once, I am ready.
After a rush job of plumbing and venturi re-sealing, I now have a remarkably capable flagship, and a trimmed and easy to fly backup ship(though I don't have but one or two patterns flown on it). All last minute A&P worries are completely resolved.
And I can and did fly my main bird with reasonably manageable instability... Hey, I'll take it however it comes, but I flew well enough today, albeit hyper-cautious. I only decided to abort the 2nd set of the OH8, and I could have and would have completed it successfully if I'd been flying in a contest. The first set was acceptable, but I pretty far off balance and I played safe.
And other than very painful hobbling, I felt great today. Like the old saying, I feel like a hundred dollars!... a thousand even... well, y'all know the old saying. Anyway, that's a good thing, Lol
And serendipity, how about this:!:

Mercy, I can write some exuberant stuff in the wee morning hours. It'll be a good fun crowd, and Holley and I will straggle in Friday afternoon sometime before going to the motel.
-
Dealing with a bad sinus infection, feel like crap. Still packing up today so Samuel and I can get on the road tomorrow after school.
-

Hi Will,
I'll be coming Saturday morning about 10 am, driving 220 miles with Gene Poremba.
If its possible I'd like to compete in beginner stunt with a Oriental or just practice if possible. I'd understand if there isn't time for me.
It'll be worth it just coming down to meet everyone, see you Saturday!!

What's the compression like on that double Fox? Crankshaft length? (is it split?). Hmmm...
-
Chad, I spoke with Dan Banjock about this engine. I flipped the prop and as soon as it came off compression, it started compression again. The engines are connected together by a special backplate designed by Dan. Dan has put a lot of thought into this engine and( crank shaft),we talked for half an hour about it. By the way, it sounds terrific in the air and hauls that thunderbolt around with authority.......Gene

Thanks Gene, very interesting. Chad
