I believe classic and N 30 are combined, and I along with other club members will be there Friday for set up and practice. Shoot me an e-mail if you plan on getting there before 0930 on Friday and I'll make sure the gate is open.

N 30 has a rolling cutoff date of 30 years , so any model designed / flown before April 30 1986 is n 30 legal.
The Name Carolina Classic is the traditional name for our spring contest, Caraolina Criterium is the fall contest .
If anyone gets to the field and cannot get in, call the c/d or any of the event directors, we have a plan to get you immediate access to the field daylight to dark .
Profile event on Saturday will be flown on the lower asphalt circle as we did in October 2015 , n /30 will be on asphalt and OTS will be on the normal well groomed grass circle ,
Looking forward to seeing everyone ,

:) Hi! I know this may seem silly to you but I truly don't know. In the PAMPA Nostalgia 30 class, is there a special order or maneuvers required for the various classes of flight i.e. Basic, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert?? If so, where can I find a listing so I can practice? I scratchbuilt a model that meets the 30 year requirement but at the moment I'm struggling to competently execute (without causing the spectators and judges run for cover) the Beginner and Intermediate maneuvers shown on the PAMPA website.

:) Hi! I know this may seem silly to you but I truly don't know.
Jim,
No question asked is silly, just the ones not asked .
At most local contest in the southeast, there are no skill classes in n/ 30 , classic , profile or OTS . Just not enough competitors to split into the different skill levels . So everyone flys the AMA Full pattern , which is the same for int, advanced and expert ,
In stunt , The only ama abreviated pattern is beginner. Basic flight is the brainchild of Watt Moore, it was designed to give someone with basic flight skills a entry level event, the basic flight diagram is in the Brodak catalog, but is not a official ama event ,
At a local contest , It is acceptable to omit maneuvers in any stunt event, if you or your model are not comfortable with the maneuver, it is best to let the judges know in advance. You will score lower than full pattern flight, but the objective is to have fun...
I have seen people enter events that they could not do entire pattern on Saturday to just get the first flight anxiety out of their system , then enter beginner on Sunday .
On the east coast, the only contest I am aware of that has skill classes in all different stunt events is Brodak fly in , we have skill classes in each day's event,
-
I really love this contest and up until the other day it was a sure thing that Sam and I were going. I had a heart attack 5 days ago and just got released from the hospital. I gotta get well and convince the wife I'm strong enough to go. I will be bummed if I have to miss it. Fingers crossed. Mike

Mike ,
Hate to hear of the health issue, people of all ages and fitness can and do have heart attacks. if it is a mild attack, it is sometimes a good thing , to help us get treatment And get on the path to a long and healthy life .
Hope you can make it, but if not we will be thinking about you and Sam .
Especially at the pool party,

Aw mike, I'm sorry to hear that. Do whatever the Docs say, but maybe your wife will come and be your contest nurse.
Wayne isn't coming either, so it was just going to be you and me in Int., as far as I know. Please take care of yourself, whatever it means. Tell them the event is absolutely necessary for your mental health.

Yikes! I hope you recover soon Mike!
-
Thanks Guys, Believe me I am doing everything the Dr. says. It really scared the hell out of me. I really just need to stop treating my body like a trash can. I was putting garbage in it all the time. I know now I am too old to handle bad food all the time.
-
God bless you Mike! That's a scary thought, i can't imagine how you felt. Keep healthy, especially for the family.
-
Will be at the field, with key, Thursday no later than 1:00PM
-
Moving this back to the top!! Anyone know what time the gates will open on Saturday for practice?
-
John,
We will be at the field around 7 am , or sooner , if anyone gets there before then, call me at 704 860 1079 , I can get you access immediately .
Saturday stunt events, Pilots meeting at 9:45. First officials at 10 am Sharp
Good turnout today at the field , parking lot was close to capacity , a lot of first timers around the field and many of the regulars, perfect weather for a practice day, OTS, n30 , carrier, profile , basic flight and combat tomorrow, busy day,
1/2 a combat got going mid afternoon, do not know results, but a lot of flying from that end of flying site,
After all this fun we were off to eat at the local restaurants, Italian, fish camps , pizza , the huntersville exit 23 on I 77 has grown to include many restaurants , strip malls , garden centers, kidventure discovery place , nascar race shops (joe Gibbs racing is close for Kyle bush fans ) , and hotels, not the quaint small vacant town we had 10 years ago.
Rumors :
Watt Moore was trying to break his gizzard eating world record this weekend ,
Alan Buck has a new secret weapon with Derek Barry Pedigree,
john Rakes is gone to four strokes, a little slow to change , but four strokes it is
Dave Courtney is back,

Brian Moore and Ed Ruane. Have a couple nice Bearcats

For the electric flyers , huntersville flying site now has a permanent 12 volt power source with ten separate charging stations , the storage battery system is solar powered and works great, no more carrying car batteries to the shelter.

Although I've been in the same company of pilots at Huntersville with Charlie several times, somehow I'd never met him until Saturday when I was admiring the flight line on the upper circle. I met him and his daughter Charra, and they're both interesting and fun, easy to talk to. I had to ask about his Shark. It was one of the seriously nice planes that I couldn't pass up, and I've only admired them from afar in pictures.
Here are some pictures of one of his flights Saturday afternoon. I'm currently editing a video that will include this flight too.

Yes Charlie is one of the great gentleman of our hobby/sport.

Here's an amateur little movie/slideshow I pieced together. I was too preoccupied to bother with the camera much. Gene Martine probably has hundreds of them, I hope he'll show us what he's got.

Just re-watching that video in full screen and realized he did a loop at 5:45. Cool! That was a deal sealer.
