Not to be glum, but what's with the "Gas Shortage" situation they're talking about. Is that going to be an issue for any of us?

Cheers,

Bob

You should be ok by then Bob.  Some places in the South were outa gas after the hurricane down in Galveston.  I think they have all the problems sorted out now....

Stations out of gas in Greensboro/High Point NC again this past Friday 10/3.  Hoarding in anticipation of weekends seems to be a problem while gas prices drop.  However, todays economic reports may keep people off the roads in the foreseeable future.

Hi Clayton,

I am supposed to go to Toledo with James Hylton for the last ARCA race of the season this coming weekend.  Not so sure now!

Bob & Others from out of town  ,

The gas delivery problems are real isolated and seem to be more of a problem in the bigger cities ( Statesville Charlotte )  , Fill up before you get into Charlotte and you shoud be fine. South Carolina has plenty of fuel and it is cheaper than ever , If coming from the south , Fill up in SC .

By last weekend most  of the gas stations in Huntersville were open and had gas, Should not be a problem . walmarts have been full in our area most of the time

*The picture shows how well the field has progressed, The pea Gravel is gone , now with something you can walk on , most of the grass is back, and cut short for the pits

Access to the shelter will be allowed to load and unload  for vendors and suppliers . You will be required to move your vehicle after the merchandise is unloaded ( Landfill rule ) )

See you next weekend

Hope the weather gods smile on you and you have lots of fun.  1100 miles one way is a little to far for this old man for only a couple of days.  Remember to post lots of pictures.  DOC Holliday

There seems to be plenty of gas around for $3.49 now and most likely cheaper next week.

Approximately how long would it take to drive down from the D.C. / manassas VA area?  I will be working there during that weekend and would like to come visit and watch- but if it is more than a 5-6 hr drive it may not be possible. Maybe  I'll get a van or SUV for a rental- then I could camp in the car Saturday night and head back to VA Sunday afternnon.

Figure about 6 to 6.5 hours.  Depends on how fast you break free of the DC traffic.  Usually I-95 is bad all the way to Fredericksburg 7 days a week.

I am actually staying in Manassas, at the I-66 / 234 junction, Google maps shows the route of I-66W to I-81S to Roanoke then I-77S to Huntersville.  Is this better than I-95 / 85 / 40?
The I-95 gets you out of VA faster, and from what I remember the VA troopers are pretty heavy along the Interstate. Last time I drove south out of VA it was 55 / 65 mph until you hit the NC line- then the average speed jumped about 10 -15 mph. Must be that NASCAR tradition  in NC.

Bill, yes 66 to Front Royal/Middletown and pickup 81 to Roanoke then 77 to Huntersville would be a good route. Speed limit on 81 is 65 to 70, but the Va. troopers are everywhere!! Figure on about 6 hours. Sleep in your car/van, no!! There are quite a few gracious hosts in the Carolina Gang!! Hope to see ya there.

I believe they lock the field at night. It is part of the county parks system.

Bill,
We have a good time at our Carolina Contest, ask some of the people that have attended , The Fall Contest is always well attended and we have several special awards that are given at the fall Contest only .

Alot of things for the family to do , real close in the area are most of the Nascar shops , open to visitors , a good flea market a couple miles from the field , lake Norman and too many other things to list

If you can make it , you will enjoy yourself ,

Will Davis

What do the winds look like.?  (Windy weather won't make me chicken out of going, but might influence my choice of planes to bring for Classic, etc....)
