Miss Dara

I have build this model about 20 years ago, Miss Dara, kitted in Brazil in the 90īs with the heaviest balsa iīve ever seen (or something lookalike balsa).
it was powered by a fox 35 then, flew nice
i have tried to find plans or pictures and found nothing, even here!
anybody else built this one or have the plans image?

I am not familiar with your kit,  However, Denny Duvall's Miss Dara was published in the December 1973 issue of Flying Models magazine, plan #CF-316.  Not sure if this was ever kitted.

and yes, was kitted by a small brazilian (now closed) company called Macīs Precision, back in the 90īs
poor quality indeed

Eddie Taylor at Lazer-Works does a short kit of the Miss DARA.  I have bought quite a few kits from him and the work and balsa selection has always been good.  http://lazer-works.com/misc.html
If you can work out the shipping it's worth looking at.  I would not wait too long, I'm not sure how much longer he plans to continue cutting kits.

The wing span of the Miss DARA C/L stunt ship by Dennis Duvall is 50 inches.  When it was recently announced Flying Models was coming back and plans were available I bought a set of DARA plans.  The new owner Thayer Symes also made me a copy of the magazine article.  The DARA shown on the Outerzone plans is for the long gone QM 15 R/C pylon racing class, they were fun to fly.  George T

  Allen Brickhaus also did a Miss Dara , but may have been a profile? Have to check hi bio in the SH HOF. I think it was one of his earlier efforts and some times flew it here in St. Louis in profile scale contests.

 Dan is correct in that Alan Brickhaus did build a profile version of the Miss Dara, and flew it in stunt as well as profile scale events. I believe an article and plans were in Flying Models mag. Wes Eakin was helping Alan's wife, Kathy, sell off some of Alan's planes at the Nat's last year, and his profile Miss Dara was one of them. I don't know if it was sold or not, but if interested, one might contact Wes.

 I watched Dennis fly his original Miss Dara at a contest in Champaign, Illinois, back in the early 70s. As I recall it was later lost when flying on too long of lines with the outer wing meeting up with a chain link fence. Too bad, as it was a beautifully built and finished plane.

My book says Miss Dara was named for the Dayton Air Racing Association, not Detroit. Tail flutter on a test flight caused the fatal crash of the original. Now back to your regularly scheduled program...
