Huntersville 1/2A Fly In
« on: November 20, 2011, 03:41:42 PM »
The Huntersville 1/2A fly in was a great success on Saturday with over 50 planes. I didn't take any planes and I forgot my camera. There were many flight with two engine models. There was a Larry Scrarinzi 1/2 A flying wing and I sneaked in a flight on it. I am not suppost to be flying for a some time. It was a blast and I didn't crash it . Watt had his camera so maybe he will post some picture. The day started at 26 degrees but warmed to 60 very quick and there was no wind. Planes were flying on all three circles. Pilots came all the way from Florida and then joined the club. This was a add on to out monthly club meeting. The club gave me a few more months to finish my Perky so they all can see it fly and compete in out club Perky event. Thanks guys. There were commercial  models from the early 50's that would bring $500+ on eBay and many hollow logs.

I don't have any pics from the flyin but I have a couple of the plane I flew.  It is, I believe, a wenmac p-38 and it was probably one of the most nerve racking flights I have ever had.

Those engines don't look like the Wen-Macs that I have, although the shop is somewhat reminiscent of mine.  Toss in some dust, cobwebs, and some dead car parts, and it'll be spot-on.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

David,
You do realize that that P-38 is worth over 500 dollars right now, don't you? EBay that baby and I bet it'll draw more than that!

It's now used.  Price will go down, unless he still has the box and all the paper work. D>K

They are wenmac 049s just with the adapter heads.  I don't care about setting it on a shelf or selling it for a pile of money I found it in the bottom of a box I got at a swap meet and had intentions of flying it from the get go.  I know that may not sit well with some people but oh well! I don't have a box or paperwork for it just the plane and if you look close it isn't as nice as you might think there were a lot of broken pieces when I got it and it is held together with wood screws and glue.  I expected it to just fall apart in the air but it didn't. The two main wheels fell out during the flight but it survived. It will definitely not be a regular flyer but more of a conversation piece.  Plus I really do not like 1/2a's!!!

Tim
Dave also flys a twin scale RC model and he works for one of the NASCAR teams so his old auto parts are not like yours and mine.
Dave has a lot of very unusual models. I have seen some fall apart in flight. Dave flys Combat, Carrier,Racing and Stunt +RC.

My brother Dan uses a Wen Mac on a nostalgia FF event.  Says properly fitted, they're real screamers.
