Tank s Hangar Aircraft Modeling

I dedicate this part of the web site to the builder of the model rule.

There is a culture in modelers, a group of individuals who love the hobby on the ground as much as in the air. The skill of the craftsman model builder, that thinker, that problem solver, that improviser who takes a box of sticks and sheeting, silk and dope, then turns it into a flying machine that can then fly the pattern; there is an awe about it, and I have a sense of reverence about it. That is the same spirit that brought about the technology we have today!

Maybe I?m a simpleton to some. Frankly, I do not care what others think regarding what is a passion in my heart; there is what matters to me, the inside me.  This hobby brings back my youth in every drop of paint I spray and every stroke of the sanding block.

I recall my grandfather sitting down with me teaching me, bonding with me, showing me life lessons in the simplest of things and many of them revolving around model airplanes. It reminds me of a time I could slow down and enjoy life, and it allows me to do the same as well today. It puts into a model a sense of appreciation that defies the coldness of mass production and carries an element that cannot be replaced by a dollar a day wage earner who does not even fly.

There is that spirit of the builder in the B.O.M. rule that keeps the delight and satisfaction of accomplishment on more than just the one tier of flying. I really feel sorry for those who cannot feel the joy I do in building.  It is like passing up a chefs fillet mignon for a cheese burger prepared by a teenager who waits for the timer, uses the spatula and a premixed shaker, and usually gets the order wrong .

I embrace this heritage and it s traditions and salute those who would carry on this tradition, valuing the people who do this rather than just valuing the dollars associated with it.

From Tanks Hangar web site. I agree!

Thanks Robert and Tanks Hangar.  The Mustunt II kit I got is gorgeous with the laser cutting and molded parts.  I just hope I can do it justice when I finally get around to building it.  Still trying to figure out how to get all of Al's posts of the Mustunt II on a disc.  Takes a ton of paper and ink to print all of it.  Thanks again,  DOC Holliday

I could not agree more with the builder of the model rule, however I personally know it has in the past and probably now and in the future, been ignored and violated. I can absolutely guarantee you of personal knowledge that one of the people that frequents this and the other sight has won a national championship trophy flying a model he did not build. He did however sign the declaration that he was the builder of the model. Not only him but the other person that contributed the build model have all but killed my desire to continue.
The fact that the rule is ignored by those in position to know the truth and  suppose to enforce the rule is the greatest injustice I can not tolerate nor should anyone else.
This is a gentelmans rule those that ignore it are not gentelman.

My post a while back echoed those sentiments.  Iunderstand it completely.

Now, will we ever have a BOM rule that is enforcable and makes sense?

What Tank said.......I agree......trouble is, like most modern day things,..nobody wants to work at it.  Crash..buy another one..... ok for them.....but now they want to take away the 20 points we could get for showing the love and respect we have for our hobby tradition...why don't they go and fly 3D...lot more flash 'n trash there.

Face it its not 20 points. The best you can get is 20 and most of the best get 19. and most of the worst get 12 even if you get 10, Thats still only a 9 point spread. Quit the bickering over 9 points! Fly 9 points better. This is not about pretty points don't you see this? Its about inports.

By American and build American! Look around your house and find the things that are made in America. Not many. Even the things made here have components from overseas. Yes even Harley-Davidson! The all American bike  LL~  LL~

Hey Robert,

I really am going to China on Nov. 16th. I'll be gone for twelve days. Do you need anything? Kick stands, tires, handlebars, grips, logos,--------anything for the house, car, dog, desk, lighting? I'm razz'in ya man. But, I am going. Keep up your great work on this forum. Thanks

Right you are Robert. I crawled under my Ford truck to change the oil and found stickers that said made in Canada on the plastic panels and made in Mexico on the steel ones over the wheels. Oh yes and the wheel bearings all made in Japan.
