Title: .How.....
Post by: Bootlegger on January 30, 2009, 11:54:12 AM
Guy's how do you apply silkspan over wooden surfaces without wrinkles. I tried using double ought (00) and it tore all to bits.
Looking for a better way..... :!

It takes practice and patience.  You may be getting it too wet to start with.  I use a spray bottle to do the water.  Then keep it handy as you dope the silkspan into place.  DOC Holliday

It's easier to slide SGM around and get wrinkles out.

Also, it's OK to use several smaller pieces, overlapped about 1/8". After a few coats of clear dope, a light sanding will remove the ridges.

Hello,
I lay the piece of Silkspan over a towel and then spray the water over it. The towel eliminates the excess of water.
Lay the silkspan over the wood and brush 50/50 dope/thinner (I use nitrate).
There shouldn't be any wrinkles but if you got some, take a small cotton ball, damp it with dope and rub it lightly over the wrinkle.

Claudio.
