Title: How to operate a "GloBee IntelliTach"
Post by: dale gleason on November 06, 2017, 09:51:17 AM
Will someone tell me how to operate this device properly? I have no written instructions, it has Memory "Save" modes that clutter up the RPM of the motor being observed. Occasionally, it even does what I want it to do, ie, indicate the RPM of a running motor, but, more often, it shows  Memory Saved RPMs from another day and another time, refusing to read the here and now...

Swapping evenly for a Hangar 9 simple single function tach would be an easier solution should anyone with a Phd in upper Physics and Math be so inclined.

Thanks,
dg

Hi Dale,
I fiddled with one of those things for years and always continued to have the same kind of problems in spite of what it says on the "wonderful" little blurb on the instructions on the Google thing.

My advice...See how far you can throw it and get a Fromeco TNC Tach.  Troubles over!  Just type in Fromeco TNC tachometer on your favorite browser and a dozen or more sources will come up!

I couldn't even give my old thing like you have away.  Everybody here in Tucson has had the same problems and switched to Fromeco!

I recently bought a Fromeca tach.  I am disappointed and don't use it.  They made some "improvements" that seem to make it unusable for me.

1)  It provides too many constantly changing digits - I solved that w/ black electric tape (Thank you Click and Clack).  The company cant/won't modify by changing the filter

2)  the RPM reading changes too fast and bounces around too much to be useful.  Perhaps the update rate is too fast.  Works fine under lab conditions when pointed at a light bulb at 60hz, but out in the field it's not too usable.

3) I worked with the owner and tried a variety of his suggestions - varied the angle and distance to the prop.  Varied the day light conditions, Also put a foam pad on the tach and held the tach to the airframe to eliminate some relative motion.  No changes noted.

4)  The Fromeca company made it right ($), but too bad, I'd like a better tach

The old ones are great.  The new ones not so much.  I now use a cheap tach from Tower

How did you get hold of Fromeca? they wont answer the phone on the one (self) appointed day they say they will (thursday) and they don't reply to email or via their contact page. Radio silence and I have bought 2 of the darn things, neither of which have worked more than a few months before crapping out.

Hi Jim,
Interesting!  I have one that I've had for about three years and it is a little sensitive but nothing like you describe!  I wonder what they changed?  Did they make any references in your conversations of what the changes were?

Not a "big thing", but the name of the company is FROMECO, not fromeca.

Dale I have two of these and use them quite a bit for practice.  I was having some issues including just running the batteries dead in the toolbox.  I started pulling out the battery when not in use and all is well.  That should also reset all the functions.

Thanks all. I think Fred's link to the user's manual may help me, but, this thing does seem to have a mind of its own.
Again,
Thanks,

And I thought it was just me. I have a Globee as well as an other digital tac.  I hate both of them. Numbers jump all over the place. I tried all the suggestions nothing works. This is how I solved the problem.

I use my old a ANALOGE Tac, (Master Tac), witch only reads two blade props and is very steady in its read out. I made up the a chart, see below, and pasted it to the back of the Tac. Works great. The only problem is these tac's are no longer made. But they turn up from time to time on eBay and forums like this one.
