How many scratch builders?
« on: March 10, 2014, 10:47:20 PM »
Next months give away is for a Ringmaster 576 by Dee Rice and Pat Johnston. This is a set of plans and a molded leading edge only. Its a long way from a short kit but it has all the patterns to build it. Would anyone be interested in this? .46 size engine.

For everyone who has donated in the past we thank you! But the only way to continue the giveaways is through donations. So I encourage those who have not donate this year to consider doing so. If you a type of guy who has kits he will never build send me a PM and we will take those too. The ones that do not make there way to the giveaways here will find their way to the NATS beginners class. For those type donations send me a PM. For the other type please use the donation page.

I've got a 576 short kit with plans on my shelf, but some molded L/E's for it would sure be nice. Got a new Merco .49 sittin' here too. ;D

Edit: Oops! Sorry, I jumped the gun there, I've got the 526. n~

The RM 576 is a very capable model.  Fully pattern capable at a pretty high level.  Even though I cannot win, it would make someone a great flying model.

I would love to have this prize! Nearly all of the planes I build are from scratch. Some started out with plans only, though. The Stunt-Stang...I didn't even make plans, just scratched it out of the wood. I love solving the construction issues, and the order of assembly, to make everything come out right!, and in the end-I get to fly it! This would be perfect for me, and I love Ringmasters!  Draw my name for this one...you won't be disappointed. Thanks for the opportunity!
I will build it. It's gonna be really difficult to find me with an ARF. I know every bit of my airplane!

What does a RM 576 look like?  Is it a larger Ringmaster, still a profile fuselage?

Can anyone post pictures?

Thanks,
Scott

The Ringmaster 576 is basically an updated profile,,
it looks like a ringmaster but it has a modern airfoil and altered dimensions to make it a competative design,,
they fly quite well from what I have seen,,
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

I build primarily scratch- I could not envision wanting an ARF. Not a put down- just that being a modeler means your hands and mind can do almost anything. Building a plane from hand drawn plans is a thrill and I wouldn't turn down a gimme, but I have planes and projects so hopefully someone with dreams can win. Thanks Admiral. H^^ H^^ H^^

I mostly build from scratch, and that would certainly be something I might actually put together.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Scratch building is all I have done since around 95, 96, and most of my builds are my own design.

I`m a scratch builder,my first scratchbuilt was a Bill Netzeband PAT 1 with a Cox  Thimble Drome .049 from a crashed Ready to fly Cox P-40. I used the plan in the Model Airplane News Oct 1966 issue to build it.

here you go, the original prototype. 576 sq. inches of wing area with flaps( flaps are optional in your build) The blurry picture shows the size difference to a S1 Ringmaster...

Richard is right, it is a very good plane ,build it with the flaps power with a LA 46 62 foot lines a Thunder Tiger 11.5x4.5 prop and you will have to pratice to get better than the plane.

Robert,

I am a scratch builder.

My aircraft use Fox 40 ABC Deluxe and now I am using OS Max 46LA engines.

Prefer about 50 inch wingspan.  This wing span is easier to transport and fits in our van.

Scratch building?     Humm............I've been "scratch" building for 65 years. y1

In fact, my first full body (gliders excluded) rubber powered model airplane was scratch built. I designed it on a grocery bag (opened up) and my deceased brother aided (corrected) my profile view so it wouldn't collapse when I wound it up. Dad gave me a sheet of 1/8" balsa to strip into 1/8" sq's and I built the whole thing from it! #^

Covered it with silk span too!

It didn't fly worth s&^%, but I was only 9 years old! I've been building, modifying, repairing, designing etc., etc. ever since, with the exception of a few teenage years off to chase girls.....big mistake; I caught one. n1
