Hey guys,

I'm just curious. I've noticed that a lot of us play various musical instruments. I myself was going to be the next Elvis back in the early '60s and had a band for a few years. That didn't work out too well so I started playing C&W with a bunch of old guys ( 30-40 yrs old) just for the fun of it. Free Beer had nothing to do with it.

Rhythm Guitar, Bass and Piano along with some vocals. I still play once in a while but not on a regular basis.

So-------How many of you play? What do you play? Are you still in the music business and if so, in what capacity? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm part of the school band, and play the trombone.

I'm not sure if playing guitar hero counts as an instrument

Matt - I used to play trombone .... still have it in a closet. Pick it up every once in awhile. Played in a HS Jazz Band where we made a record, also concert and marching band.... was 1st seat for 3 years. One year we took 3rd place in the east coast nationals (marching band).

I've got alot of great memories being in the band .... unlike most schools, we were more popular than the sports teams! It also meant we got all the pretty girls too! LOL!

Right now I'm play'n the RADIO! Yesterday I played the R-2-R (Quadrophonic) and last Wednesday I played the 8 track. Retired Music Educator, major instrument is the double French Horn. Wife plays piano at Church, also clarinet and various folk instruments including Ky's official State Folk Instrument. Daughter plays piano & clarinet, Son plays trombome and guitar. Sometimes we all "pick N' grin".

I am just learning to play the steel guitar. I also jam occasionally on Dobro with a local bunch of guys with "snow on their roof".

I play the pandemonium! Lol Actually I'm in a rock'n'roll band, we have gigs most weekends, Beatles, Stones, all that 60's sound seems as popular with the younger generation now as it was when I was a teenager in the 60's! I play a Gretsch 6120 (thats an orange coloured guitar!)

I have been playing guitar and piano for 46 years and cut first record at 11.Also started playing sax and bass in stage band in high school, still do. I unfortunately had to make a living in the 80s playing CW (Im a rocker) but survived! I still write and perform.

There seems to be alot of flying musicians! I wonder if there is some connection there??

Well, I'm in my seventies now and damn glad I survived the music years. In high school I played drums in a rock band and banjo in my father's dixiland band. Later in the Navy(when on shore duty) I played banjo at Shakey's Pizza (remember that...banjo and honky tonk piano) and in San Fransisco at the Red Garter, later at the Crazy Horse in DC. I learned to play 5 string banjo and with a small group (The Old Five & Dimers) and we were the original Birchmere Band in Arlington, VA. Later I learned the dobro and pedal steel with other groups but finally age and commitment to the job brought an end to the music years (what I remember of them. LOL). After retiring to Florida in 2000 I finally sold all my instruments on Ebay and bought a Kawai Ensemble Digital Piano and I am very satisfied to spend hours playing for my own amusement.

I've owned as many as five guitars at one time, played in a R&R band in high school called the (Fabulous) Four Dimensions,
and never learned to read music. Now I'm down to a single guitar (Ovation, actually not an easy guitar to play and never
a favorite..), and cannot play it due to a staph infection I got in late 2006 in my left hand. Well, actually I cannot play
it because I cannot actually play guitar; I don't call playing chords by ear actually playing.

All I manage nowadays is picking my nose..

Majored in music education. Primary instrument was trombone. Played in a military band for four years. Bass trombonist in a symphony orchestra for almost 10 years, until my heart got too bad. Being in the symphony, I had to play in bass, tenor, alto, and sometimes treble clef. All this was in a former life that I left 16 years ago. It was a hoot; though.

I enjoyed hearing you play at Brodaks. I absolutely love my Taylor guitar, have played that a little along with the stand-up base in bluegrass and folk groups. Also dabble with piano, clarinet and sax when the chance arises. When I get a little more retired I may start playing with the Erie Playhouse. Keep pick'in, grinn'in. and fly'in..........

I have been playing an instrument of some kind since I was 8, when I got a Cornet. By the time I was in college I had become a "utility musician" playing all brass instruments... since then I have played in or with over 90 bands..from garage bands to Symphony Orchestras. My instrument of choice these days... Harmonica, my favorite is the Chrometta 8-10-12 hole harps... I have about 40 of them... from 12 inches long with 128 notes and to a hair over an inch that plays 8 notes.. I love Christmas music... musicals... and can play Blues Harp as good as it gets... Country music is a bit repetitious ... I like rock, fast and hard... My favorite musician in concert has been Ray Charles... I have seen ZZ Top 7 times ... and I love to listen to Dean Martin, Jessie Cook and Tony Bennett .. my mom and sister play Piano.. My brother Tom is a fantastic guitarist and I record with him once in awhile and my other brother Phil plays sax and clarinet .. musical influences... Hank Williams.. Beatles.. Stones.. Steven Foster.. Oscar & Hammerstein... George Gershwin... and Walt Disney Songs...

Yes, Gene Shaffer was a great musician. Billy is very good too. There are many musicans in the stunt community. I think that this helps your timing in maneuvers. Even Ted Fancher plays the piano. Bob Lampione is a fantastic singer, and was in an award winning barbershop quartet. Ashford is a excellent player, and Brickhaus was a H.S music teacher.

Personally, I have been playing in small combos piano bars, and hotels since I was about 15 yrs old. In high school I played piano and upright bass in the orchestra, and graduated #1 in music. Then went to engrg at Parks College, ST Louis U.

I spent 9 yrs in the St Louis area and music has always been part of my life. Like Phil, I also played about 1 1/2 years at Shakey's in St Louis, (piano) with a banjo and tuba player, and also played on some river boats.. lots of fun.

Back in the NY/NJ area, I played a min. of 3 nights a week in restaurants, hotels, piano bars, jazz clubs, and also in traditional/ dixieland jazz bands. I miss the piano bars, because it was very social, and I can tell many stories about the people.

Now in Texas, I do less but have averaged about once a month over the last few years in restaurants and jazz clubs. I also plan to get to some ragtime and traditional jazz band festivals over the next year. This is a happy music, and as I already said, lots of fun.

I played in a rock band in the late 60's. I collect some now. got a 59 Strat, 56 Esquire, 65 Fender Jazz bass. Got some cool amps, I have a brown and a blackface Fender Concert, 65 Bandmaster, 55 Tweed Tremolux and a 67 Super Reverb. My son is the real player if you like the Blues. My son has been playing since he was 13. When he was about 17 he had a 66 Chevy 1/2 ton pick up. He took my Canon AE1 with black and white film and took a picture of the bed of his truck with a Fender Vibroverb amp, a ringmaster, Nobler kit sitting in the back. Stunt Planes and Guitars just go together.

For playing music, my weapon of choice is a pipe organ. However, since it's hard to fit one into a house, I usually have to make do with an electric organ. I have played a little guitar as well.

I started guitar in '54 at the age of 14. I've played in C&W, classic rock, blues gospel and contemporary Christian groups along the way. Now my musical career is the building of custom guitars and basses. I'm just finishing up my 26th instrument since 2001 and have them spread all over the US. Some in Nashville, Albuquerque, Las vegas, KC, and a lot around Ohio. The current project is for a music professor at a local community college.
I'm constantly amazed at the number of musicians who fly and have also often wondered if there's a connection.
Imagine what a cacophony of music we could have at the nats if we all came and set up!!!

I played trombone in highschool band, and also electric bass in a school jazz band. Played bass in a country band for about 6 years. Been playing guitar since about 1955 off and on. Not very good, but have fun with it anyway. Some people use a pic for bass and guitar, but I play by ear.

I learned how to play most of the brass instruments in my Junior High Band...mostly trumpet...took piano and accordion lessons...sang a lot of solos in the church choir. Now at 61 years young, I'm learning the guitar to become an old blues singer

I play keyboards, mainly piano. In the mid 60s I played in a rock band—when there was a decent piano at the gig. When I was old enough to get into licensed clubs I played the clubs backing acts and the like. In 1980, I bought a 73 note Rhodes Suitcase Piano and played in a couple of rock bands but after my daughter was born, I needed to devote my 'spare' time to making decent money. I have an accoustic piano that was made for me in 1972 by a factory in Sydney, I was able to keep the Rhodes and a couple of years ago I added a DX-7 Mk II to the collection.

My son is a better player than ever I was and today, I only play for a bit of fun and to push him to raise the bar.

Regarding the comment above about kids of today liking the material from the sixties, after we moved 5 1/2 years ago, my son found the ring binder that I had much of my repertoire filed in and the little monkey—age 12—started palying my stuff. Some of the music that he started palying included Sounds of Silence, Let it Be, Cast Your Fate to the Wind and Pipeline. He still plays a killer backing for Bridge Over Troubled Water.

A flyer that I have never seen on the forums is Bobby Keys, sax player with the Rolling Stones. His model Jumpin' Jack Flash was shown in Stunt News several years ago.

That might just get me back to the NATS if there was one night or two of just music jamming. When my son was playing viola they called it, I took him to a fiddling contest at the local Shawnee Days festival. I use to drive a young rock and roll group around to different locations and listen to them. I tried cornet in the 50's but, the folks couldn't afford the lessons or instrument. I love listening to people who can play musical instruments. At Church they let me sing once in a while, no music, music and tapes. I guess they can't take the punishment to the ears too often. I have been playing guitar for about 15 years. I have been in a few bands over the years. I have a 79 strat and a 78 alvarez acoustic. I also have about 8 other acoustics, one other electric(OLP) and a bass(ibanez). Wish I had more time to play!

I play Bluegrass banjo, some guitar. In a band and attend at least one jam a week + practice. Also do some lead and backup singing.

This week I'll be playing at a Cancer Fundraiser Thursday night and going to the local Bluegrass Festival this weekend in Leonardtown, MD. Parki lot picking all night!

I spent all four years in High School in the Band. I waqs first chair Bass for three of them. I liked it a lot, but never realized that it was something I could have made a living at. After graduating, I was asked to join the L.A. Junior Philharmonic, but not owning a tuba, I sort of let it all go and went into the Navy.

I've always played a Harmonica, mostly traditional songs, and played the Mandolin for about 6 years during the 70's.

Now, I play the radio.

Hi guys,
I have been playing guitar since 1958. I currently own a Gibson es335 and a german made 12 string acoustic guitar and I still have my original Silvertone tube amp.

When I was younger I and a friend wrote music and even had some of them copyrighted. The church he and I attended wanted to get youth more involved so we wrote an original 18 song Christian rock musical for the kids to perform and from the kids of that show a church youth choir was developed and continues on to this day with the next generation of kids.

I stopped playing for many years and when I restarted I realized how much I had forgotten but for some reason picking up my guitar is like shaking hands with an old friend that makes me feel comfortable and puts me at ease even if I don't have the same skills I had years ago. I still enjoy it.

Alittle while ago I had Disturbed-Ten Thousand Fists cranked in the garage while I was mixing fuel ..... my neighbors are used to the noise now. At first, I had to explain to them that I'm an old headbanger from way back.... but they are cool and actually enjoy some of it.

MTV-Headbangers Ball was my favorite show every week ... but your too young to remember it. :-)

Maybe I should start mixing fuel while Metallica-Fuel is playing.... !!

Well, where to start...
I started playing clarinet in 5th grade, moved on to bass clarinet, then sax in Jr. high and high school. High school marching band was mostly drums.
In early college I played drums and Bass trombone (not really good...just loud!) in marching band, mostly bari sax in jazz ensemble and bassoon in orchestra, chamber orchestra, and woodwind quintet.

Currently I play bassoon in a community wind ensemble.

I do also listen to DAUGHTRY, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, occasionally Billy Joel, and then the Italian Mob Hits. I'm sure you Italian guys out there have heard of That's Amore, Al-Di-La, Volare, and Lazy Mary, right?
