how long do i wait ?
« on: March 10, 2007, 01:24:57 PM »
I just sprayed my vector with a base coat and i guess i mixed the dope wrong because it dried within 2-3 min. and it feels like sandpaper.I'd say about 400 grit lol.How long should i wait to sand it off since it feels completely dry already?

24 hours, more or less. Sounds like you spayed too dry. I assume you're sanding it off because you're unhappy with the outcome?

Steve,
Next time, try to dial in your mixture using a smooth piece of card board to test on and save the plane til you get it right. Sounds like you got too much thinner in the mix, paint drying in the air and not getting to flow/settle on the surface. My 2 cents worth....

Too much thinner, wrong "temp" of thinner, too much air pressure, or too far away from the surface.  Any or a combination (usually) of all can do it.  Always do test panels.

Didn't say what brand you are using but I found I had to mix Brodak 60 thinner, 40 dope to get it to flow on. Everyone was telling me to mix it 50-50 but trying to spray it came out pretty much like you described.

If you are using Brodak dope. Sand it so it feels faily smooth and then brush on a coat of clear.
