In recent years, coverage of VSC, with photos, has favored Classic and those with the most "colorful" (and sometimes outlandish) paint work. Notably absent was mention of Old Time entries, and mention of Spark Ignition entries.

I'm pleased to see this coverage of ALL types this year.

Had a small thermal/dust devil blow through mid-day today. Tore up Bob Brookins awning and then a whole bunch of models on display. Really sad! I'm sure somebody will have pictures.

Years ago at VSC I got hit by a "Dust devil" on official flight, first time I ever even heard of one.
Barnstormer with four headbolt Fox 35 and original Y & O 10/5 prop. Powermist with added castor oil!
Brief and scary but it survived!

"Dust Devils" -- back in my (1970-1980) Free Flight days at Taft & Elsinore, we called those things "Trash Movers"....which they certainly were!

I think this deserves it's own reply, maybe a new thread? Anyway, special guest speaker Mike Keville gave a nice history of VSC. There were several people who have been to all 30. He asked is this any ones first. I think I was the only one who raised a hand. I got to talk to Mike a while. We even had dinner at the same table, and had a few laughs. He complimented my box car chief. I feel fortunate to have met Mike, and I look forward to seeing him next year.

Thanks, Dane. For those who haven't yet met him, Dane (and others like him) are the future of this hobby. He's young (well, to ME anyway), enthusiastic, a fine builder and flyer -- and also a really nice guy. We hope to see him here again next year.

That photo, by the way, of him and that old geezer, was taken by Becky Dixon - Tom's wife - at the conclusion of the VSC-30 banquet.

Thank you very much sir. The banquet dinner is reason alone for people to flock to VSC. What a spread.
They gave thanks at the dinner to all the wonderful folks responsible for putting this on. The event itself is EXTREMELY well organized. Non stop flight after flight! Somehow, frantically fast paced, but relaxing and therapeutic at the same time.
Here's appearance judging pics. I didn't know that the judges actually move the planes to set up the rows, so I'm very sorry to not have taken pictures in order.

Bob McDonald won overall points and super 70's. Jim Hoffman won ringmaster OTS.
