Looks like house cleaning on over stock. Good move to reduce inventory.

WOW! That's less than wholesale. (or maybe I should say for retail) If I didn't already have too many kits I'd get a couple before they are gone.

So tempting but ya, I already have kits to build.  I just have to remember that when I moved last May the first thing I did while prepping the house was to clean the rafters out of kits that I'd never get built.  20 some control line kits and 30 RC ones later and those were the ones I gave away.  Still have half a dozen each.  Some day I'll have time and money and they won't make kits anymore.

Guess I'll build from scratch then.

I've seen Orientals fly really well but I choose the Tanager. The Tanager was re-designed by Brodak from the old PowWow format. It's larger than the Oriental and has a modern airfoil. In talks with a certain top flyer it was said to have a "good wing" and you have to love wing tips with ribs in them. The one thing I would do on my next one will be to stiffen the aft fuselage with a double shot of Dave Brown carbon fiber laminate on both sides. My last contest I won intermediate in a stiff breeze with my 50oz. Tanager and would have gotten 3rd in advanced if I had entered that way. I've seen guys use the wing and tail on a box fuselage for a plane that could take you well into advanced if you build light.

They musta sold all the Tanager's don't see them now. Looks like there getting rid of the last of the die-cut's but Brodak's die-cuts are VERY good !!! So there minus a Hawker Sea Hurricane...Love that plane !!

I placed an online order Sunday night for a new Twister kit directly from Sig, received it yesterday. $53.95, their everyday price.

Thanks for the tip!  I've been wanting to build a profile to get in on the Saturday fun at contests, so I got the Oriental.  I learned to fly a few years ago with the Brodak Tanager and it is pretty sturdy and held up to 5 hard hits on asphalt, and although its not that pretty any more, it still flies!

Hi Tony, good to hear from you, thanks for the reminder.  I didn't mean to start a controversy here however in a thread dated July 5th, 2013 a knowledgeable modeler who posts here stated that Dee Rice confirmed that Profile Orientals were built in the 60's. That was the basis of my statement.  If I were a CD (and I am) that would be good enough authentication for me to allow one to compete however others may feel different I suppose. C you at VSC!  8)

The read about the Oriental's history has been interesting, thanks all. According to http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=6494 Dee Rice did an August 1970 MAN construction article on the full body Oriental, don't know what design iteration this was. My motivation was cost not any specific contest for my NOS Testors Series 21 McCoy .40 Black Head. Otherwise, I would have opted for something smaller, which still I would enjoy.

This will be my first big one, finally something CL in .40 size RC, big is just beautiful! ;D

If you have been successfully flying 1/2A stuff, than ANY airplane that catches your eye will make a good model to move up with. If you have a decent engine  for the Jr. Lightning Streak, and you like the looks, go for it! If you are looking to do the basic aerobatic maneuvers, it will handle that, it pretty tough, easy to build and repair. Just follow the instructions for recommended line size and lengths and such. Keep the plans in good shape, make templates from the kit parts, and build several so you have another one in the hanger ready to go if you crash the first one.
In my opinion, there is no such thing as a bad airplane. It just depends on what you want to do with it. If it is kitted and people are buying it, you can probably figure it's a good design. Some kits get modifications and such to "improve" performance, but that doesn't mean the airplane doesn't have any capabilities in stock form. Just build it straight, pay attention to the small details, and have fun!

I most definitely do NOT need another kit.  I have too many sitting in the closet, and I really prefer to scratch build.  But, I'm a sucker and bought an Oriental and Jr. Lightning Streak.  I also got the electric conversion kits for them.  I don't know if I'll build either of them any time soon.  Or if I do, if I'll build them electric.  The only reason to go electric is to fly in the churchyard across the street.  But, they're on their way now, either way.

Did any body else get CLB-2 (built up Oriental- die cut) instead of CLP-4 (Profile Oriental die cut) ??? I see the Profile is sold out, just wondering if they substituted since the CLB-2 is no longer listed in there kits. The built up Oriental Laser is CLB-9. Since there probobly snowed in I'll wait to call unless this happened to others.

They were sold out on the profile Oriental, but are showing it available again.  Since I kicked myself for not jumping on one a week ago, I ordered a couple.  One to fly and the other to spread.

Just got off the phone with Brodak's, they accidentally sent the wrong one. Through mutual agreement it's less expensive and more convenient to both of us for me to keep what they sent and call it even. Nice people to deal with. y1 y1 y1

The jr Streaks are great fun. Flite Streak and Lightning Streak. I've powered them with FP15s and Enya 19s. Tongue mufflers. Anything to take weight off the front with those engines. A hard running .09 or .10 might work best. No need for tail weight. FPs powered the last two. Both needed at least a half ounce in the tail. Great fun. I use a 2 ounce chicken hopper from RSM. Plenty of fuel wedged in behind the engine. Those models fed well on uniflo. I needle the engine as lean as it will go. Love the speed, as long as my feet are feeling ok. Combat .049s and FAI 15s are way faster and more spectacular. The jr Streaks are plenty fast for duffers.
